Pain and gain the movie is actually more docile than the truth. Michael Bae seems like the perfect director to depict the machismo antics of these guys, but that’s the problem. These are serious crimes, not sympathetic stupidity. Spotlight is a revealing look at the Catholic molestation scandal of 2002. This film had me floored. Whatever problems it has, they do not affect the narrative, and that narrative is surprising. I remember this scandal from when I was kid, but I had no idea how bad it really was, and this movie reveals it well. In the Heart of the Sea is fun movie that shows the travails of the Essex, whose 1820 adventure was the inspiration for Melville's famous Moby Dick. It has perhaps the best showing of what it was like to sail in the Golden Age of sailing. In dramatic cases, revisionism involves a reversal of older moral judgments about heroes and villains. Much more controversial is the reversal of moral findings, which the heroes, good guys, or positive forces are depicted as villains, bad guys, or negative forces. This revisionism is quickly challenged by the supporters of the old view, often in heated terms.
