The reason for this was demonstrated on September29,1984, when Peter Verhulsel made his first dive into the Sterkfontein Caves, a vast complex of passages and pools in the Transvaal, near Johannesburg, with only a single aqualung and a single light.

The Saint-Étienne-en-Dévoluy cable car crash occurred on July1,1999, in Saint-Étienne-en-Dévoluy, France, when a gondola operating on a privately owned aerial tramway became detached from the cable and fell into the valley below.

The St. John's School fire, which occurred on the morning of October28,1915, at the St. John's School on Chestnut Street in Peabody, Massachusetts, was a fatal fire. While attempting to escape the fire, twenty-one girls aged 7 to 17 were burned or crushed to death.

It all started with the neighbourhood cats. The people of Minamata, Japan, began to notice their cats were going insane and falling into the sea in the mid-1950s.

Cave diving horror stories - Four divers drowned in the Grotto Rosso cave, a few miles south of Naples. The cave is one of the most popular dive sites on the Italian west coast, drawing hundreds of divers each year because of its dark red walls, which are caused by bacterial growth. A large portion of the third floor of Jerusalem's three-story Versailles Wedding Hall collapsed at 22:43 on May24,2001, during the wedding of Keren and Asaf Dror. As a result of the two stories, 23 people died, including the groom's 80-year-old grandfather and his three-year-old second cousin, who was the youngest victim. Another 380 people were hurt, including the bride, who needed surgery for serious pelvic injuries. Asaf, who escaped serious injury, carried out his wife of the rubble in his arms.

Kelly Barnes Dam was an earthen embankment dam located just outside the city of Toccoa in Stephens County, Georgia. On November6,1977, it collapsed due to heavy rain, and the resulting flood killed 39 people and caused $2.8 million in damage.

On February7,1981, a fire broke out at the Venus Circus in Bangalore, India, killing more than 92 people, the majority of whom were children. The fire swept through the circus's main tent, which collapsed in flames onto a crowd of about 4,000 people, causing a stampede to the exits. The fire disaster claimed the lives of 92 people and injured 300 more. Schoolchildren accounted for 56 of those killed and many of those injured. The cause was thought to be a discarded cigarette.

The Harrow and Wealdstone rail crash occurred on October8,1952, during morning rush hour at Harrow and Wealdstone station in Wealdstone, Middlesex (now Greater London). It was the worst peacetime rail crash in the United Kingdom, with 112 people killed and 340 injured, 88 of whom were hospitalised.

Cave diving horror stories - Indian spring is a freshwater spring in Wakulla County, Florida, located south of Tallahassee on private property. The spring is about 90 feet deep and has a cavern and a cave that connects to the famous Wakulla Springs and the Floridan Aquifer.

The Wellington area was hit by a severe blizzard for nine days at the end of February 1910. Up to a foot (30 cm) of snow fell every hour, with eleven feet (340 cm) falling on the worst day. Two trains, a passenger train and a mail train, were stuck in the depot on their way from Spokane to Seattle.

On June29,1864, near the present-day town of Mont-Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, the St-Hilaire train disaster occurred. After the crew failed to obey a stop signal, the train, which was carrying many German and Polish immigrants, crashed through an open swing bridge into the Richelieu River.

The Silver Bridge was a suspension bridge with eyebars and chains that was built in 1928 and named after the colour of its aluminium paint. The bridge connected Point Pleasant, West Virginia, and Gallipolis, Ohio, by crossing the Ohio River.

A gas and coal dust explosion in the mine sent flames bursting from the mine shaft entrance on April26, 1942. A cordon of Japanese guards barred relatives of miners from entering the site, erecting electric fences to keep them out.

Agnes Milowka was an Australian technical diver, underwater photographer, author, maritime archaeologist, and cave explorer who lived from December23, 1981 to February27, 2011. She died aged 29 while diving in a confined space. She rose to international prominence as a public speaker and author on the subjects of diving and maritime archaeology, as well as for penetrating deeper into cave systems than previous explorers in Australia and Florida. She died while diving in a confined space at the age of 29.

Neil Moss was a British student who died in a cave accident on March23, 1959. Moss, a twenty-year-old undergraduate studying philosophy at Balliol College, Oxford, became trapped underground after descending a narrow unexplored shaft in Peak Cavern, a well-known cave system in Castleton, Derbyshire, on March22, 1959.

On Saturday, May11,1985, a fire broke out at Bradford City's Valley Parade stadium during an English League Third Division match between Bradford City and Lincoln City, killing 56 people and injuring at least 265 others.

The Summerland disaster occurred on the night of August 2,1973, when a fire broke out at the Summerland leisure centre in Douglas, Isle of Man. Fifty people were killed, with another 80 receiving serious injuries. The fire's size has been compared to those seen during World War II's Blitz.

The Niterói circus fire was a fire disaster that occurred in the Brazilian city of Niterói on December17, 1961. More than 500 people were killed when a fire broke out in the tent housing a sold-out performance by the Gran Circus Norte-Americano (including deaths due to injuries).

On June29,1995, in the Seocho-gu district of Seoul, South Korea, the Sampoong Department Store collapsed due to a structural failure. The collapse was South Korea's worst peacetime disaster, killing 502 people and injuring 937 others. Until the September 11 attacks in New York City, it was the deadliest modern building collapse, as well as the deadliest non-deliberate building collapse.

The Plasco Building in Tehran, Iran's capital, was a 17-story high-rise landmark building. It was Iran's tallest building at the time of its construction in the 1960s, and it was considered an iconic part of the Tehran skyline. During a high-rise fire on January 19, 2017, the building collapsed.

On May 10,1993, a fire broke out at the Kader Toy Factory in Thailand. It is thought to be the worst industrial factory fire in history, with 188 people killed and 469 injured. Young female workers from rural families made up the majority of the victims. Despite the fact that more people were killed than in the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory fire, the incident received little international coverage.

The Winecoff Hotel was built in 1913 for a cost of 350 thousand dollars, by William F Winecoff in Atlanta, Georgia. The impressive structure was the tallest building in the city and dubbed by Winecoff himself as being absolutely fireproof. The hotel itself was constructed of stone and brick with the roof and floors being concrete supported by steel beams and girders.

The blue bird café was a popular two-story nightlife complex which housed a thriving cocktail lounge on the first floor, Upstairs was the Wagon Wheel a country and western bar which featured live music and was quickly becoming the place to be for country and western fans as it was one of the few places in the city that played this type of music. The blue bird and wagon wheel catered to a younger crowd, mostly from a working-class background who enjoyed drinking, dancing and live music.

Cave diving horror stories - Sheck Exley was born on the first of April 1949. He began diving at the age of 16 and instantly fell in love with the extreme sport, a love that he would carry with him for the rest of his life. To some people Sheck was a timid, soft spoken high school algebra teacher at Suwannee High School in Live Oak, Florida, to most he was considered the world’s greatest cave diver and the best to have ever done it.

On March24,1999, a fire broke out in the Mont Blanc tunnel. A freight truck caught fire while going through the Mont Blanc Tunnel, causing the accident.. Other vehicles were caught in the tunnel, and firefighters were unable to approach the transport truck. A total of 39 persons were killed.Major adjustments were made to the tunnel as a result of the incident to improve its safety.

The story of the Collinwood fire/school disaster - It was Ash Wednesday, March the fourth 1908, a typical winter day for the students of Lake view as they went to their classes which began at 8.45am. There were approximately 336 in the school. Emma Neibert, a fifth-grader, spotted smoke rising from a basement storage cupboard beneath the main stairway at 9:30 a.m. Fritz Hirter, the janitor, was immediately told, and he rang the fire bell and opened the front and back doors. Because the fire originated just beneath the main stairwell, the front escape was totally blocked by flames in a matter of minutes. When the students discovered the front escape was blocked, they all made a rush for the rear exit.

In 1991, November 29 was the Friday following Thanksgiving, and as a result, traffic onI-5 was greater throughout the day. Low visibility on the roadway triggered a series of chain reaction incidents around 2:30 p.m. local time, around 45 miles (72 km) north of Coalinga. The accident claimed the lives of 17 people and injured another 150. Several vehicles caught fire, contributing to the deaths; two bodies were so badly charred that they could not be identified after the accident. Fengcheng city is located in Jiangix province and has benefited from the economic boom over the past years. As part of Chinas “Five year plan” on national economy and social development, they set out to build Fengcheng power plant which would be the largest coal fired power plant in the province. Works commenced on December the 18th, 2015 and construction was split into four parts, A TO D. In part D were two cooling plants which were to become Chinas largest cooling towers standing at 165m meters tall and made out of concrete.

Peshtigo is a city in Wisconsin in the United States. It's about 45 miles (70 kilometres) northeast of Green Bay, on the Peshtigo River and was founded in 1838. With only 3500 or so residents, Peshtigo is a quiet place, and if you were passing through you would have no clue their sleepy city was the origin on the deadliest fire in united states history history.

It was October 2012, 62-year-old father of 6 Jose Melena was working the night shift performing maintenance repair work at the back of an 11-metre-long oven at their factory in Santa Fe Springs, California, when suddenly at around 5am he vanished.

It was Walt Disneys dream and It was achieved, but it hasn’t happened without a few dark tragedies, none more infamous than the death of Debbie Stone in 1974. Deborah Gail Stone, the first child of Bill and Marilyn Stone, was born in Santa Ana, California, on June 18, 1956. Growing up, Debbie was friendly, popular and excelled in both academics and athletics, particularly track and swimming.

Karen Elizabeth Wetterhahn was an American scientist who specialised in toxic metal exposure at Dartmouth College in New Hampshire. She died at the age of 48 from mercury poisoning caused by an unintentional exposure to the organic mercury complex dimethylmercury.

Kaitlyn Lassiter, 13, was seriously injured on Superman: Tower of Power on June 21, 2007. A cable snapped shortly after the ride began, striking riders in Section 3 of the attraction. During the "drop," the rope wound itself around Lassiter's feet, shattering her left femur and chopping both of her feet off.

The case of Elizabeth Isherwood is a chilling reminder that death can strike anywhere at anytime. What should have been a relaxing holiday at a familiar resort, turned into a tragic and gruelling final few day for Elizabeth in a story that shocked North Wales and everybody who knew her.

Bad Reichenhall is a beautiful little mountain spa town located in the Bavarian Alps in Germany, close to the Austrian border. The first known residents of the area date back to 2000 B.C but the area didn’t become popular with tourists until the early nineteenth century. Bad Reichenhall is popular for its beautiful scenery and winter sports areas, but if you’ve heard of Bad Reichenhall, it was unfortunately probably not for these reasons but for the disaster that happened on the second of January 2006.

Yuki was excited as any 5 year old would be and 30 minutes into the event she found her first bamboo shoot. She jumped for joy, and told her mother that she was off to find another one. Around 2 p.m., the digging was complet, and the children were to meet their mother in the bamboo grove area. Yuki, on the other hand, did not show up. Yukis mother was confused and began searching the area. She also asked those near to help, and a large number of people began looking for the missing girl. When no one saw or heard from Yuki after an hour, the Visitor Center contacted Sakaide Police Station and reported her missing at 3pm.

The life of Mike Malloy is pretty much unknown to everyone. The way Mike died however, is a completely different story that has become infamous over the years due to the way Mike managed to cheat death for months before finally succumbing to his fate. Michael Malloy was an Irish immigrant who settled in the United States. During the 1920s and 1930s the era of the great depression, he was a homeless man who lived on the mean streets of New York City. When meeting Marino, an owner of a Speakeasy he didn't realise he had just signed his death warrant, but it wasn't going to be easy for Marino. This is the incredible, infamous story of Iron Mike Malloy.

Mike Edwards gained notoriety in early months of 1972 when he joined the Electric Light Orchestra (ELO for short). ELO had a streak of top 20 hit singles on both sides of the Atlantic from 1972 through 1986, and their albums sold more than 50 million copies worldwide.

The story of 16 year old Kyle Plush, like many other stories I have covered, just goes to show that death can strike anywhere, anytime. Whether that’s at work, in your vehicle or out and about with friends. However, where this story differs to the others is the reaction and response from the people we expect to help us in these terrible situations, unfortunately for Kyle the reaction wasn’t near good enough.

A brief overview of what happened at Travis Scotts Astroworld 2021. . People were reportedly crossing turnstiles and jumping fences to enter the sold-out festival without tickets so they could watch Scott live. There were thought to be 50,000 people who turned out to see Scott. Once Scott took the stage the audience began to push and surge towards the front of the stage, causing the people in the front to be squashed and others to be trampled on. Astroworld festival 2021.

The Kew Lunatic Asylum is a decommissioned mental institution in the Melbourne suburb of Kew. Kew was one of Australia's largest asylums, and it was open from 1871 to 1988. The Kew Children's Cottages were first opened in 1887 as the Kew Asylum's "Idiot Ward."

Disneyland Decapitation: Young and her friends boarded a bobsled at the Matterhorn's base at 3:30 p.m. The matterhorn was one of the theme parks most popular rides. t is based on the Matterhorn, a mountain in the Alps that straddles the Swiss-Italian border. The ride is made up of two different tracks that run fairly parallel to one other for the most of the trip, finally tangling and diverging at the loading areas imitating being on a bobsled. Riders wore lap belts in their bobsleds to keep them secure inside. Young sat in the far back, alone away from her friends.

Collin was 23 years old, he was visiting Yellowstone from Oregon on June the 7th with his sister Sable and wanted to find a place in the park to illegally swim. They decided to hike in a prohibited area of the park. The couple disregarded the several prominent warning warnings in the area instructing people to stay on the boardwalk. Sable was filming a video of the two "deliberately" stepping off the Norris Geyser Basin's boardwalk when disaster struck.
