Our story begins with the sudden disappearance of Hakuro Teshima’s younger half-brother, Akito Yagami, who was born after Hakuro’s mother remarried into a wealthy family. Since her death, however, Hakuro and Akito have grown apart. One day, a woman named Kaede, who claims to be Akito’s wife, comes to see Hakuro and asks for his help in finding her missing husband, who is heir to a fortune estimated at three billion yen. There they learn that Akito visited the house several years earlier to see the spot where Hakuro and Akito’s mother, Teiko, was found dead. Hakuro is confused about how his mother’s death, Akito’s disappearance, and Yasuharu’s missing notebook are all related. Then he learns that Kaede has betrayed him and joined forces with another member of the Yagami clan. He begins to doubt whether Kaede is really Akito’s wife and he pays a visit to her family home to find out the truth. But Kaede says they can rescue Akito if they can just find Yasuharu’s research notebook.
