Surprisingly, it doesn't take more torque to loosen them, it just takes more rotation. The reason (as I found out) is because you need to stretch the bolt to overcome the locking wedges.

A quick test out the VPS engraving on the Haas 15k spindle. I'm using a 3/32" end mill and I got pretty good results with a 0.002" depth of cut.

So, the party line is there was a power outage. There was no automatic generator transfer switch. The trained "operator" forgot to start the auxiliary diesel generator. Then the "operator" released the anti-rollback mechanism. How he released it under load of a full chairlift isn't clear. He hydraulically jacked off the service brakes; then hydraulically jacked off the bullwheel brake. Failed to notice that the cable was rolling back. Failed to re-engage either of the two brakes that would have stopped the lift. Hmmmm.
