Tom and Semir pursue a tanker truck carrying stolen weapons. The gangsters open fire but manage to escape while the police secure the truck with the weapons. Arms dealer Lea van Kerkhoven wants to get rid of Tom and Semir without attracting attention. She lures the two into a trap and when Tom comes to, the informant is dead. Inspector Behler, who specializes in corrupt police officers, arrests Tom and Semir while all the evidence speaks against them.

A cash truck is robbed on the highway, and while Semir and Tom are chasing the gangsters, Engelhardt is seriously injured in an accident. She has to go to the hospital, and surprisingly Herzberger is appointed as her replacement. Semir and Tom discover that only certain paintings by an artist were stolen, which were intended for a planned exhibition in the museum. The gangsters demand a ransom, but while the police try to monitor the handover, the criminals rob the art shipment again. Tom is dragged out of the truck and briefly sees the leader's face.

Adam Vladek wants to blackmail real estate king Ernst Wagner by having incriminating photos of him as a murderer. However, at a meeting to hand over the money, Vladek is shot by Wagner's son Johannes. Tom and Semir pursue Johannes, but he falls into a lake and dies. The police continue to investigate and come across Vladek's girlfriend Vera, who is fleeing from Wagner's killers. Despite their attempts to convict Wagner, he manages to lure her into a trap. Wagner also kidnaps Vera to use her as leverage.

The blind opera star Maria Struck is kidnapped by the gangster brothers Harry and Frank Kaschke, but manages to escape and causes an accident involving Tom and Semir. Maria is in shock and is cared for by the police. Their investigation leads to Maria's lawyer Dirk Schneider, who seems suspicious and claims that the kidnappers are demanding ransom again. It turns out that Schneider is behind the kidnapping plan, killing the gangsters and misleading the police, while Maria's ex-husband Wiesner is wrongly arrested.

Semir and Tom are hunting the suspected murderer Rudolf Behrmann, a police officer who is said to have shot his partner Martin Fischer. Behrmann protests his innocence and takes hostages in the office. In a conversation with Semir, he gives him the task of tracking down a man named Jürgen Blaske. Blaske turns out to be an undercover investigator who provides information about drug embezzlement by SEK officers. But Blaske is shot, and Semir and Tom must now find the real murderers before it is too late.

Tom and Semir are distracted by a murder case in a motorway car park after leaving Meike Moritz, a woman who has broken down, behind. Shortly after they help her, Meike is found murdered. Tom is plagued by guilt and throws himself into the investigation. The suspects - Meike's husband Frank, the breakdown helper Rolf Pfeifer and the designer Robin Jakoby - all have an alibi. Meanwhile, another victim is found, Sabine Grauberg, and it is suggested that a psychopath who cuts the victims' hair is behind the murders.

Jochen Bonrath steals a car to impress his girlfriend Tina and causes an accident. He accidentally takes a CD-ROM with him that gives access to any computer in the world. Dr. Schmidt, the owner of the CD, kidnaps Jochen and demands the CD back. During a failed handover, Jochen is freed, but Dieter Bonrath and Jochen suddenly find themselves sitting on a bomb. Dr. Schmidt threatens to blow it up if he doesn't get the CD. At the last second, Tom and Semir are able to defuse the bomb and catch Schmidt.

A group of highway racers, led by Daniel Merserburger, regularly drives on the highway. After a fatal accident in which Micky is shot, Tom and Semir begin to investigate the gang. Daniel, who was involved in another accident a year ago, is suspected of trying to silence Micky and Robert because they gave him an alibi in the first case. The father of Laura, an accident victim, believes in revenge, while Daniel's father obstructs the investigation. But then Robert is also murdered.

Stefan Hausmann, a former false witness, is hit by a truck while driving on the highway, shortly after receiving an anonymous phone call. The caller, Erik Dekker, accuses himself of murdering Hausmann. Dekker, who was wrongly convicted years ago for the murder of a gas station attendant, now seems to be embarking on a campaign of revenge. Tom and Semir are unable to prevent the assassination attempt on public prosecutor Wolf, who is seriously injured. Dekker eventually kidnaps the last witness and Engelhardt, whose life is now also in danger.
