Efter en lång tid av känslomässiga stormar kastar sig Francesca Woodman ut från ett fönster i New York 1981, bara 22 år gammal. I dag, trettio år senare, är hennes fotokonst mer uppmärksammad och aktuell än någonsin. Filmaren C. Scott Willis har haft tillgång till såväl Francescas dagböcker som hennes sällsamma svartvita bilder och videor. Det har blivit en dokumentär om hur en spröd konstnärssjäl kan födas i den robustaste av familjer.

Får man skriva om allt? På 1950-talet gick William Burroughs i bräschen för litteratur om "farligheter" som narkotika och homosexualitet. Så småningom skulle han komma att hyllas som ett slags gudfader för beatgenerationen som också räknade Allen Ginsberg och Jack Kerouac som sina medlemmar. I den här dokumentären får vi också en bild av Burroughs privat - ett komplicerat och delvis våldsamt liv. Medverkande är bland andra David Cronenberg, Iggy Pop och Gus Van Sant, och för musiken står Patti Smith och Sonic Youth.

I dokumentären möter vi den danska konstnärsduon Elmgreen & Dragset. Den ständigt aktuella duon är internationellt berömda för sin humor och idoga ifrågasättande av västvärldens djupt rotade konventioner. Filmaren Jannik Splidsboel berättar deras historia från det att de träffades på 90-talet till den stora öppningen av Venedigbiennalen 2009.
