Marc is on edge ahead of his court appearance the following day and he wallows in his room, as if it is the last time he'll be able to. Sean becomes concerned and asks Tara if she would mind playing second fiddle on this occasion. She seems happy enough until he seemingly stands her up later in the day and Andrew takes delight in rubbing Tara's nose in it. Angie feels pushed out when Ollie joins Marc and Sean for a walk, but Sean drops a bombshell and tells them it is time he moved on from the village. Like a knight in shining armour, Paddy rescues her from an argument with her furious driving instructor. The ice is broken and Paddy seizes the opportunity by asking Emily to marry him. He goes to drastic lengths to make alternative arrangements for her and converts the Dingle van into a bedroom. After weeks of mental torture following the birth of her baby daughter, things finally come to a head for Bernice in dramatic fashion. Fraught and at the end of her tether, she finally throws the towel in and declares that she can't take motherhood a day longer. She pleads with her mother, Diane, to collect her belongings from the vicarage - but not baby Gabby. But Diane has heard enough and tries to slap some sense into Bernice - literally. Scott, meanwhile, is stunned to discover that the chassis number has been filed off the car. When Ray calls round to ask after the car, Scott promises to repair it quickly and with discretion. Ray is impressed and assures Scott that he will be paid well for the work. Scott is delighted and offers to take Chloe for an expensive meal, safe in the knowledge that it won't eat into their holiday fund. Viv eventually tells Bob he can come home on one condition, that he gives up his job in the pub and to work in her café. Bob explodes that the café was a terrible idea from the start. Viv is extremely hurt by this comment and takes drastic measures when she declares their marriage is over. Hurrying to get home to meet his curfew, Marc sees the smoke rising from the church and runs to the vicarage. Alerted to the fire, a horrified Edna reveals that Ashley and Zoe are inside! Mesmerised by the blaze, Zoe is oblivious to Ashley's attempts to help her. The smoke is unbearable and the roof is beginning to cave in and yet, hypnotised by the flames, Zoe walks towards the fire, mumbling quotes from the Bible to herself. There is gloom hanging over the Dingles as they lament the failure of yesterday's plan to off-load Peg on their relatives. Putting their heads together they are forced to have a re-think. The plot thickens as they hatch plan B, a morbid scheme to get Marilyn and Elvis to take Peg, once and for all….. in a coffin! It's the day of the wedding and over the course of the morning the village buzzes with excitement as the residents busy themselves with the final preparations. Meanwhile, Terry lurches from one temporary home to another. After being given his marching orders by Bob, Terry is relieved when Alan agrees to put a roof over his head. He still can’t resist Louise, however, and after spotting her in the street, he decides to confront her about her decision to leave Emmerdale. The police presence in the village shows no signs of abating - but their door to door inquiries are only hindering the investigation as it becomes apparent that there is a lot of alcohol fuelled confusion over people's movements on Christmas Day. Louise is starting to feel the heat, though, and it is surely only a matter of time before the net closes in on her and the pressure to confess becomes unbearable. Lisa is angry and unsympathetic as Zak tries to explain that finding Jed's long lost loot is their only chance to put an end to the Dingle debts. Tossing his argument aside, she frantically tries to make him see sense as he continues to pack his bags. In a last ditch effort to keep the family together, Lisa even gets physical with Zak, but it's all to no avail. Sam is convinced that he is to join Zak on his big adventure and happily talks of his pending adventure as he joins revellers at the pub. Little does he realise that Zak plans to go it alone and is happy for him to be out of the way so that he can leave without causing him any pain.
