This video marks the first opportunity I've had to leverage my still camera collection on screen, an error I've been meaning to rectify for years.

This is a video I've wanted to make for several years, ever since I discovered my Mavica had a high speed drive in it. As cool as all of these are, it's still frustrating that they simply never became mainstream.
Floppy drives could have been improved before the end of the eighties, there was really no reason for them to stay so slow except maybe controller limitations, and that limitation could have been resolved as well. Instead, we kept using the same crap well into the 90s, and it became impossible to replace. Ain't that always the way?

These comically large videotapes seem to hold the only evidence of a "game" from the early 90s that never saw a release, and may have been intended to enhance an ahead-of-its-time online gaming and social service. Let's see what stories I can invent about it, and learn a little about how Mortal Kombat was made in the process.

This device - the Sony Vaio PCG-GT1 - encapsulates so many of my interests, offered so much - in its way - and reflects a future we could have had, but for once, are probably glad we don't. It's shocking they made something like this at all, and unclear what their ultimate goal actually was, so in the end, all I could do was review the thing on its merit. I'm not sure what that achieved, but I love this little machine regardless, so who cares.

For complex reasons, a Newtek Tricaster video mixer was left at my studio for only one day. I had a lot going on and almost no time to research or experiment, so here's me spending about an hour (give or take; I did have to resort to the manual a couple times) learning to do everything I can.
Who knew there was a CD-R that wasn't utterly boring? Well, this one is just about as interesting as it could get... which is not to say it's a good product.

Disclaimer: Since there was some concern over how people interpreted a couple things I said, I want to make my perspective clear. I know next to nothing about the companies I am badmouthing in this video, I just consider all modern businesses to be liars and all products to be untrustworthy and potentially unsafe. My comments are in general, not specific.

I have once again picked up a piece of debris at the junk store and made a video about it.
This is a story I invented because I couldn't find any hard answers. I expect to get corrected on my assumptions, but I didn't know how else to start a conversation about it.
I have already received comments confirming that I got most of this correct, to my great satisfaction. There is ONE inaccuracy I've been made aware of, it's significant, and I can't believe I didn't think of it myself: The plunger doesn't reset when you trigger the coil, or ever. These are one-time-use devices.
Once you bypass a relay, there's no telling what damage it will incur as a result of overcurrent, etc. The contacts could get fused together permanently, or a brief internal fire could coat everything in soot, there's no telling.
Once a ship makes it back to port, all such overridden devices get replaced with new ones. That may be why this one was thrown away - or it might just be that someone pushed the plunger d

Corrections:
00:03:06 The Model 25 used an 8086, but it ran at 8MHz. In practice that would offer very little improvement for most things we'd want to do.
