Take charge of the harmony and direction of the music with bass note reharmonization! A sure fire way to impress people with your mad bass skills and also piss off a controlling keyboard player or two. The bass I was using in this video was a Samick Corsair short scale bass (25") strung with long scale strings originally tuned BEAD (from a 5 string) to EADG standard. The string tension is comparable to a normal 4-string bass, but with a much smaller scale length. 4:3 is a powerful polyrhythmic ratio and the basis of a lot of pop music songwriting and bass rhythms of the past 10 years or so. In this installment of Adam Neely's Bass Lessons we take a look at something called the ever-expanding triplet, looking at ways to perform eighth note triplets, quarter note triplets, and every iteration of a basic triplet on up to quadruple whole note triplets. Yes, it's kind of a weird concept, but in practice it works really well to get a specific sort of acoustic bass guitar sound in a recording environment.
