Somewhere on Earth

Somewhere on Earth is going to the Azores, in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean….and in the middle of winter! We meet Mauro, a young sailor who lives on the island of Flores. He braves the severe winter storms. Then, Joao: He's fascinated by the sea and has now become an enthusiastic paraglider. Whenever he gets the chance, he spreads his wings and soars above the volcanoes. Finally, we meet Nilton, His island, Pico, is the roof of the archipelago. From this mountain peak Nilton can feast his eyes on the immensity of the Atlantic.

Somewhere on Earth invites you to Tasmania, where the Pacific and Indian Oceans meet, in the "Roaring Forties"… south of Australia. First, we meet Richard Bennet lives on Bruny, a little island off Hobart. On this slip of land, this photographer has found the light, colors and the seascapes that never cease to delight him Then we meet Steve. He likes to explore the forest on the lookout for Huon Pine trees .They are one of the oldest forms of life on our planet. Steve is one of the rare people able to recognize them in the forest. Liam and James are two brothers wild about surfing and deserted beaches… Their passion leads them into the heart of the bush. Tasmania is their playground.

Belize... This slip of land tucked in between Guatemala and Mexico on the shores of the Caribbean is the Tom Thumb of Central America. In the far south we'll meet Cash, a ranger by profession, but first and foremost an islander. Then in the San Ignacio region, everything is a call to adventure. Isabelle, landed here 8 years ago with her backpack. Finally, we’ll mee Meliot. His passion for a river has taken the shape of a voyage. Every month he travels up the Sibun River to make sure that it's not in any danger.

Somewhere on Earth is off to Brazil, where the spirit of adventure and mystery still lingers on. Expedito and Raimondo are brothers. Their lives are inextricably linked to a legendary river: the Paraguaçu and their boat, a saveiro that looks like it's straight out of a swashbuckling adventure book. The Lençois de Maranhenses is a bewitching sight. Only a few men live in this desert where time itself has evaporated. Joyoson is right at home in the Lençois. Roy landed in Brazil about 30 years ago, in the Chapada Diamantina. He has become the ardent defender of a vast territory where he roams every day.

Today "Somewhere on Earth" is off to the Hawaiian Islands. Hawaii is a living land, a dynamic force. Here, Man is dwarfed by Nature whose unbridled force rules supreme. First we meet Scott. He’s explored the rugged landscape from the Waimea Canyon to the Napali Coast, home to the island's earliest inhabitants. Then In Oahu, Yuko is a sailplane pilot. She is always on the lookout for the slightest breeze to satisfy her passion. Finally, we meet Olivier, a French astronomer, spends a good part of his time on the summit of Big Island, at 4207 meters

Today Somewhere on Earth is headed for the West of America, a land where the pioneering spirit and dreams of fortune still live on. Al Foul is a musician. He plies the deserted roads of Arizona at the wheel of his old taxi. The concerts he gives in the little towns keep him in close contact with a slice of genuine America. Richard Fox, who grew up in the mountains of Wyoming, has chosen to live close to Nature. By running the family ranch he's perpetuating the cowboy tradition of the American West. The mountains and canyons of Utah still echo with Indian chants. Steph Davis has made this her playground. Climbing, skydiving and base jumping, this is the daily bread of this enthusiastic woman in search of the extreme.
