In this issue, Sabine Quindou first goes to Port-La Forêt, in Finistère. It is indeed here that a school of excellence is nestled: the Pôle France "Course au lLarge". Its mission: to detect and select talented young skippers. And then it was in Saint-Malo that Thalassa witnessed the departure of a unique and promising sailboat, just out of the shipyard: "Grain d'Sail".

Let's go to the West Indies, to meet those who are committed to inventing a new way of living with the sea, like Arjen, a young Dutch sailor. In the West Indies, global warming is a reality with, in particular, increasingly violent hurricanes, such as Irma in 2017. On these rapidly urbanizing islands, we are now rediscovering the major importance of mangroves, at the same time biosphere, nursery, and larder for fiddler crab fishermen. But mangroves are above all natural barriers that limit the impact of cyclones and hurricanes.

David Bossard, a diver, is a key figure in Les Sables-d'Olonne. It is involved in delicate maritime operations, but also for major events such as the Vendée Globe. On the Ile de Ré, hundreds of hectares of marshes, abandoned in the 1970s during the salt crisis, are given a second life...

A look back at this crisis that for several years has pitted fishermen and environmental associations against each other around an emblematic animal of the oceans: the dolphin. After his triumphant welcome in Les Sables-d'Olonnes on 21 January at the finish of his fifth Vendée-Globe, sailor Jean Le Cam took a team of Thalassa on board as he delivered his ship back to its home port in southern Finistère. This is a unique opportunity to discover this 62-year-old Breton, who has spent more than 40 years racing all the world's seas, and who distinguished himself during this epic edition by saving his competitor Kevin Escoffier from a shipwreck.
