Documentary following snowplough drivers, RAC patrols and heavy-recovery specialists working to ensure the roads are kept clear if severe winter weather hits. As downpours across Britain create treacherous driving conditions, Neill Devlin faces one of his toughest jobs yet when he is called to remove a 26-ton HGV that has skidded off a narrow country road and overturned into sodden ground. In the Highlands, snowplough team Chris Tate and Donald Mackenzie fight to keep the Applecross Pass open and are beaten back twice by high winds and big drifts. After more torrential rain in December, RAC patrols race to help flooded cars and bogged-down motorists, and come to the rescue of a family after a high-speed crash on the motorway.

As torrential rain in the south-west of England brings some of the worst flooding in living memory, the RAC's Ian Devonshire and Sean Kimberlin are on high alert as they come to the rescue of stranded motorists. In the Highlands, plough driver Stevie Booth faces a new route and a race against time to get the roads clear of snow and ice. Across the UK, as freezing temperatures follow the rain, the roads become treacherous and RAC patrolman Joe Ryan-Howes comes to the aid of a driver whose vehicle has skidded on sheet ice into a fence.

As Britain endures a cold snap, there is chaos on the roads as snow, ice and freezing fog conditions persist. RAC patrols battle to reach snowed-in motorists, while heavy-recovery specialists CMG Rescue Services are out 24 hours a day tackling the aftermath of overturned HGVs and traffic collisions. In Bournemouth, RAC patroller Louise French is first on the scene at a serious accident and has to treat a casualty as she waits for the ambulance to arrive.
