Young teacher Anna Fedorova goes to the police to report the violence she has experienced. In a terrible mental and physical state, Anya faces indifference from law enforcement officers. She gives evidence to investigator Anastasia Smirnova, who advises the victim to go home and forget everything as a bad dream. The fact is that Anya accuses very influential people of the crime, including local official Anton Belov.

Investigator Viktor Nesterenko detains suspect Maksim Chebotayev. Nesterenko explains to Maksim that the case will not be hushed up — Anya will not withdraw her statement. His friends have money and connections, and in the event of a direct threat, they will shift all the blame onto Maksim. Despite pressure from management to close the case as "mutual" — Viktor organizes an investigative experiment on Viktor Dorin's yacht in the presence of Anna Fedorova, investigator Smirnova, and attesting witnesses.

Journalist Tatyana Bortnikova arrives from Moscow to sort everything out and gather information for an article. Investigator Nesterenko provides Tatyana with materials to review during a personal meeting. Recently, while on duty, he seriously complicated the life of the suspect, official Anton Belov. Anna is going through a difficult period: rumors and gossip do not subside, society reacts sharply and ambiguously to what happened. In addition, Belov accuses Fedorova of extorting a large sum of money.

The public becomes aware of the details of the scandal in connection with which Anna was fired from a prestigious lyceum in Moscow. The past has caught up with Fedorova - now no one believes her. But there are girls who were subjected to violence by Viktor Dorinov several years ago. Nesterenko and Smirnova raise archives of statements from victims that were ignored by investigator Pavel Kruglov, their current boss.

Students of the school where Anna Fedorova worked stage a civil protest in her support. Anastasia Smirnova initiates the arrest of three suspects, but Nesterenko begins to doubt the veracity of Fedorova's words. Viktor organizes a polygraph test for the victim in the presence of journalist Tatyana Bortnikova.

After a polygraph test, it turns out that terrible things happened to Anya and her friend Alina, who committed suicide. Even after 5 years, Fedorova could not get rid of the psychological trauma, and this led to serious consequences. Then Anya decided not to tell anyone about what happened, and investigator Nesterenko becomes almost the first person to learn the truth.
