When Ted's acerbic mother is thrown out of yet another retirement home, Barbara grudgingly agrees to let her move in - temporarily.

When Barbara's house is flooded, Ted gets a taste of the Dunkirk spirit and revels in the situation.

Giving Barbara just the right Valentine's gift is always a headache for Ted. But this year he forgets all about it - and discovers he is not the only one.

Following a crimewave in the area, Barbara joins the local Neighbourhood Watch scheme. The head of the watch, Mr. Dougsdale later decides to kick Barbara out for causing too much trouble. Soon after, the lights go out and Mr Dougsdale falls in the living room, losing his glass eye, hearing aid and false teeth. Mr. Dougsdale thinks he's found his hearing aid under the piano, only to discover its something old of Barbara's that should have been left where it was. Meanwhile, Linda is away, so Neil begs Martin to go to a nightclub with him. Neil is meeting a date at the club, and she's bringing along a friend, So, Neil wants Martin to keep the friend company while he's on his date. As it turns out, the two girls are big fans of Martin and completely ignore Neil. So Neil drowns his sorrows and arrives home drunk; only to be met with a bigger shinier problem...

Barbara and Ted make an unexpected announcement about their future together, leading to a rash decision at the garden centre. Linda and Martin have a weekend away with some friends, leaving the unreliable Jean and Phil to babysit.

Jean's eager to show off her new boob job but Barbara's not sure. Martin realises too much sex can be a bad thing when Linda decides she wants another baby, and Neil's flagrant disregard for Ted's taxi gets him thrown out of house and into the arms of his voluptuous girlfriend.

Barbara's next-door neighbours are moving away but she isn't bothered as she never liked them anyway.

Barbara lies in a hospital bed after being shot with air rifle, Not so much of a case of 'who done it' more of a 'who didn't'.
