Ena Asakawa (Masami Nagasawa), an announcer at Taiyo TV, was both popular and talented, but left the programme after a weekly magazine filmed her kissing on the street. She now works as a corner MC on a late-night information programme. One day, Ena is consulted by new director Takuro Kishimoto (Go Atsushi Maeda) about a serial killer on death row who may be falsely convicted. Takuro, who for some reason does not care about Ena's desire not to be involved in the press, much less in a false conviction case, asks for her help in pursuing the truth of the case. There is a reason why Takuro is so eager to help... Ena dismisses the idea of digging up an incident that has already faded away, but Takuro persists and turns to ace news reporter Shoichi Saito (Ryohei Suzuki). He innocently invites Ena to go with him to hear the story of the incident...

A missing second-year junior high school girl is found dead, with strangulation marks on her neck like the victims of a former serial murder case, and her body was found in the same mountains. Is this a coincidence or -? Ena (Nagasawa Masami) sees a slight possibility in the words of Takuro (Maeda Go Atsushi), who had accused Yoshio Matsumoto (Kataoka Shojiro) of being falsely convicted of the death penalty, and reconsiders the case on her own. She then feels uncomfortable with certain claims made by the prosecution. Meanwhile, Takuro realises the gravity of the situation and withdraws from the case, but when he learns that Ena has started working on it in earnest, he offers to help. Just then, he receives a letter addressed to Ena from Matsumoto, who had requested a meeting with him through his lawyer Taku Kimura (Seiji Rokkaku). She also receives a phone call from an unexpected person...

Ena (Nagasawa Masami) becomes increasingly impatient and determined to prove the false conviction of Yoshio Matsumoto (Kataoka Shojiro), a death row inmate, as soon as possible. Meanwhile, her lawyer Kimura (Seiji Rokkaku) introduces her to newspaper reporter Mayumi Sasaoka (Shoko Ikezu), who has access to the newspaper's holdings of the case at the time. Ena immediately tries to speak to the detective who actually conducted the interrogation 12 years ago, but he has already retired and his whereabouts are unknown. However, Takuro (Maeda Go Atsushi) unexpectedly locates him and Ena interviews former police inspector Mamoru Yamashita, who is said to have extracted Matsumoto's confession. Seeing Yamashita's somewhat brusque replies to her pointed questions, Ena begins to harbour suspicions about the interrogation at the time. When she edits the footage with Takuro, Saito (Suzuki Ryohei) is watching through the door of the editing room...

Ena (Nagasawa Masami) has planned to broadcast footage of interviews with the victims' families and other people involved in the case on Friday Bonbon. Ena's "surprise attack", which even Takuro (Maeda Go Atsushi) was unaware of, stunned Murai (Okabe Takashi) and the other staff. After the programme goes on air, Ena is severely reprimanded by Nagoshi (Kondo Koen) for arbitrarily airing a VTR that was deemed inappropriate for broadcast. On the other hand, the response to the special feature was bigger than they had imagined... Ena and her team next focus on a crucial eyewitness testimony, which was also a decisive factor in the arrest of the culprit. The witness, Tadashi Nishizawa, is reluctant to give an interview that Ena and the others have requested, and Takuro feels that Nishizawa's words are somehow fishy. Just then, Ena is told by her lawyer Kimura (Seiji Rokkaku) of a shocking revelation about Matsumoto, a prisoner on death row (Shojiro Kataoka).

Ena (Nagasawa Masami), who has been banned from producing a sequel to the special, quietly accepts the decision of upper management without asking why the production was cancelled. However, Takuro (Maeda Go Atsushi) is unable to accept the decision because of the strong public response and the good ratings. With a sense of justice that has nowhere else to go, Takuro begins to investigate the background of Nishizawa (Seishio), who has given eyewitness testimony to the incident, on his own. It turns out that Nishizawa used to live in the town at the foot of Mount Hachioji, where the incident took place. Further interviews in the area reveal a new face of Nishizawa. Meanwhile, Ena has begun to build a good relationship with her former lover Saito (Suzuki Ryohei) again. Just then, her colleague Yudai Takigawa (Takahiro Miura), who works in the news department, tells her that Saito has a close relationship with a big-name politician who has a lot of influence over the police...

The retrial becomes a reality when the eyewitness testimony that was the decisive factor in her arrest is overturned, and Ena (Nagasawa Masami) is once again emboldened. Furthermore, this fact ignites the spirit of Murai (Takashi Okabe), who used to work in the news bureau, and declares that he will report the case on Friday Bonbon in a big way. After the on-air report, the public reaction to the new revelation, which shakes up Japan's judiciary, is tremendous, and all kinds of media start to move in. Furthermore, an irreversible situation occurs that reminds Ena and her colleagues how naive they were in their thinking. At this critical juncture, it is decided that Ena will appear on News 8 as "the reporter who was chasing the case". Normally, Ena would be happy to make a triumphant return to her old stomping ground, but there is a certain suspicion in Ena's mind ever since she learns that Saito (Suzuki Ryohei) is connected to the Deputy Prime Minister Daimon (Yamaji Kazuhiro)...

A man who once misled Ena (Nagasawa Masami) with his mysterious atmosphere and dangerous eyes in a shopping street she wandered into. That man is Akira Honjo, the eldest son of a powerful supporter of Deputy Prime Minister Daimon (Kazuhiro Yamaji). There is something about that man. Ena has a hunch, and asks Takuro (Maeda Go Atsushi) to investigate. Takuro comes up with a "theory" about the perpetrator of a series of bizarre murders, and interviews people in Yahi City again, which leads him to Takaoka Hikaru, who was close to the last victim, Nakamura Yuka. A photograph left on Hikaru's mobile phone further motivates Takuro. Ena's reaction to Takuro, who has been pushing forward to get to the bottom of the case and excitedly reporting back to her, is strangely muted. Unable to hide his irritation, Takuro finally asks Ena about her "true feelings", but what does she say?

Even with the results of the DNA test, the fact that Akira Honjo is the real murderer is not allowed to be made public, and Takuro (Go Atsushi Maeda), who has nowhere else to turn, is fired from his job on suspicion of threatening detective Hirakawa. Ena (Nagasawa Masami), who feels a huge power behind this incident, loses her physical and mental balance again. Meanwhile, Murai (Okabe Takashi) attempts to contact Daimon Toru, the daughter-in-law and secretary to Deputy Prime Minister Daimon (Yamaji Kazuhiro), and gets Takuro to identify himself as a journalist and meet with Toru. Toru is serious and has a strong sense of justice, and says that he tried to prosecute Daimon in the past, but eventually succumbed to power and discovery. He then launches a strategy to eliminate Daimon, the biggest obstacle to Honjo's arrest. Toru, too, is determined by Saito (Ryohei Suzuki), who will eventually become Daimon's right-hand man, and is ready to make a decision...

Daimon Toru is dead. Takuro (Maeda Go Atsushi), who knows that he was about to accuse Daimon's Deputy Prime Minister (Yamaji Kazuhiro) of "covering up" the rape case against him, understands the meaning of his death and is left speechless. Murai (Okabe Takashi), on the other hand, is outraged at Daimon's attempt to put an end to all this by trampling on Toru's justice and using the death of his own family member to save his own skin, and at the way the media continues to turn a blind eye to the evil in the name of power and report on it with impunity. Ena (Nagasawa Masami), who saw Murai's unusual behaviour when he stormed into the News 8 studio, visits Takuro to find out his true intentions. However, Takuro declares that this time he will back out of the case. Ena's answer to Takuro's deep disappointment and fear is...!
