Doctor in the House (IE)

A new series of 'Doctor in the House' kicks off tonight which sees a load of doctors arrive at your gaff and point out everything you are doing wrong in your life. They usually have willing participants though so don't be alarmed, they're not going to show up in the middle of your Dominos one day. Tonight, the health professionals head to Finglas in Dublin to help the O'Connor family, whose lifestyle has descended into takeaways, daily alcohol and almost no exercise. After being monitored, screened and assessed, the family is give some shocking news, and they have eight weeks to turn things around before being retested.

In Tipperary, the team of health professionals visits the Ryan family, consisting of 45-year-old Fiona, 44-year-old Tom, 12-year-old Cian, and five-year old Éanna, and baby Caitriona. After being monitored for a week, the family find out what is really going on inside their bodies, before improving their lifestyle over a period of eight weeks, aided by a new eating plan and an exercise regime

The team of health professionals heads to Prosperous, Co Kildare to help Debbie Mason, her partner Peter, and their two sons, eight-year-old Ryan and five-year-old Luke. Debbie suffers with depression, and consequently struggles to maintain a healthy diet and exercise, while Peter is a sugar addict, with his extreme intake of fizzy drinks causing his teeth to start turning black and decayed. Although Luke likes vegetables, his sibling Ryan refuses to eat much more than chicken dippers. The family find out the effect their lifestyle is having on their health, then the team gives them eight weeks to follow their advice before retesting them.

The team of health professionals visits the Kelly family in Kildare, where soon-to-be 40-year-old twins Ashling and Aileen live with their mum, Christine, who has type two diabetes. Both twins are overweight, with one sister having a sweet tooth, and the other relying on alcohol. After being screened and monitored, the girls are given a frank assessment, then they have eight weeks to change their lifestyle before being retested.

The team of health professionals visits the Fortune family in Bray, Co Wicklow to help Emma, her printer husband Ed and their three children, 14-year-old Josh, 11-year-old Charlotte, and five-year-old Noah. Mum Emma loves preparing home-made food, but cooks meals that are heavy with sauces, and baking cakes is one of the family's favourite activities. The doctors step in and, after being screened and monitored, the family hears some shocking news, then have eight weeks to change their lifestyle before being retested.

Final episode in the series tonight for the Doctors in the House as the team comes to the aid of a couple in Drogheda. The pair came to Ireland from South Africa and Zimbabwe as asylum seekers in 2008, and spent five years waiting to be granted the right to work. They now have jobs as healthcare assistants while their daughter studies to become a nurse. The docs will have their work cut out for them tonight as dad Daniel refuses to take any medication for his type 2 diabetes and eats about 3-4 takeaways a week, while daughter Gugu’s diet consists of high fatty foods and virtually no exercise, with her weight escalating to over 23 stone. The docs worry Gugu won't even make it to 50 at this rate, can they help her and the rest of her family turn things around?
