Eine Leiche liegt auf einem Boot, ein Verdächtiger rennt mit der Tatwaffe in den Händen weg, und am Tatort gibt es Hinweise auf einen Raub: Klara Blums neuer Fall scheint von Anfang an aufgeklärt. Ohne zu zögern unterschreibt der Staatsanwalt den Haftbefehl. Mit einem Geständnis des Verdächtigen wäre der Fall komplett. Doch Daniel Seefried leugnet den Mord an dem reichen Industriellen Wolfgang Reichert. Er wirkt benommen und glaubt, betäubt worden zu sein. Er wisse selbst nicht, wie er auf das Schiff und das Messer in seine Hand gekommen sei. Schwer zu glauben und noch schwerer nachzuweisen.
Klara steht Seefried misstrauisch gegenüber. Aber sie ist auch irritiert. Denn in Seefrieds Telefonspeicher findet sich ausgerechnet die Nummer von Rita Fürmann, der Ehefrau des Staatsanwalts. Fürmann ordnet einen Lokaltermin auf dem Schiff an, bei dem Seefried die Flucht gelingt. Absicht oder Leichtsinn des Staatsanwalts? Seefried jedenfalls ist verschwunden.
Als Klara erfährt, dass Fürmann seine Frau beobachten ließ und von ihrer Affäre mit Seefried wusste, erwachsen ihr Zweifel an seiner Integrität. Ist der Staatsanwalt wirklich objektiv dem Verdächtigen gegenüber?
Rita Fürmann ist überzeugt davon, dass ihr Mann nichts von der Affäre weiß und bittet Klara, ihm nichts davon zu sagen. Sie fürchtet um das seelische Gleichgewicht ihres Mannes. Fürmanns Entscheidungen und seine Passivität bei den Verhören erscheinen plötzlich in einem ganz anderen Licht.
