This episode follows ambulance crews in Aberdeen and Edinburgh and the special operations response teams from the east and west of Scotland as they deal with the most serious calls.
It’s festival time in Edinburgh and ambulance crew Stephen and Gwion are called to treat a woman who has fallen on the Royal Mile, possibly breaking her ankle. Elsewhere in Edinburgh, another crew - Blair and Moira - respond to a 999 call about an elderly lady who has become unresponsive and may have had a stroke. As strokes are time-critical, they assess her as quickly as possible and rush her to hospital.
In the Central Belt, it’s a hot summer's day and the special operations teams are called to support the fire service at a major wildfire. They are also called to a fire in a tenement block in Glasgow and another fire in Falkirk.
On the M8, a major crash poses another challenge for the special operations team, while back in Edinburgh, specialist paramedic Mat is called to a head injury before suddenly being diverted to a more serious life-or-death call. And in Aberdeen, an elderly lady needs treatment for a face injury sustained in a fall.

In Edinburgh, an emergency on Arthur’s Seat sees the team deploy their off-road vehicle, while elsewhere in the capital, a builder has had his hand crushed by a skip and needs urgent treatment if he is not to lose some fingers.
Outside Glasgow, the team for the west of Scotland is called to a possible drowning which requires their special skills and equipment to try and retrieve a body from the water.
In Aberdeen, Ewan and Alan transfer one of the oldest patients they have encountered to hospital. The patient is a 102-year-old lady with breathing problems who needs treatment. Back in the east, the team based close to Edinburgh have a call to a crash involving a car and a tram.
In Peterhead, near Aberdeen, a seriously ill patient needs emergency stabilisation on the way to hospital. She is in palliative care and could go downhill fast.
And at Glasgow Airport, a patient is safely stowed onto the ambulance service’s fixed-wing aircraft for a transfer back home to Stornoway after treatment in hospital.

In this episode, we follow ambulance crews in Aberdeen, Edinburgh, Glasgow and Paisley and also spend time with the special operations response teams as they deal with the most serious emergencies. In Aberdeen, ambulance crew Sarah and Stuart are called to a patient with epilepsy who has suffered a succession of fits and needs to be taken to hospital. In Edinburgh, the special operations team attend a car crash involving some tourists who have just arrived in Scotland only to find themselves involved in a collision and on their way to hospital. The team are also called to assist with a call on Arthur’s Seat, where a man has a suspected broken ankle and might need to be in their all-terrain vehicle. In Glasgow, a patient with a suspected stroke is assessed by ambulance crew Steve and John. They run some tests, but when they recommend she go to hospital, she is extremely reluctant. Back in Edinburgh, specialist paramedic Mat is called to treat a woman with severe pain due to pancreatitis. He does what he can to relieve her agony before arranging hospitalisation. And on the Edinburgh night shift, paramedics Colin and Dan have a call to a possible sepsis case involving a teenager with a swollen foot and a range of unusual symptoms. In Paisley, paramedics Fiona and Brian visit an elderly lady who has fallen and gashed her arm. A bit of patching up is enough to fix her wound and she can stay at home to recover.

In Aberdeen, ambulance crew Sarah and Stewart are called to a lady who has fallen at home and needs to be checked over, while not too far away, near Peterhead, an elderly patient who has difficulties moving needs to be transferred to hospital. Ambulance crew Ricky and Luan use their skills to help him safely into the ambulance.
Outside Glasgow, Special Operations paramedic Brian gets a call to a woman with breathing problems, which could be a sign of something serious. Later, he is called to help his colleagues at a bus crash in Glasgow that has left a few passengers injured.
In Edinburgh, Moira and Blair are called to a lady who has collapsed on Princes Street and needs to be taken to hospital. In Paisley, Gary and Pete respond to a call about a young boy with a rare heart condition who has had a seizure and needs to be checked in hospital. In this episode, we follow ambulance crews from Edinburgh and Glasgow and the special operations response teams from the east and west of Scotland as they respond to 999 calls and provide emergency medical treatment.
In Glasgow, Stevie and his team are called to a car crash on a very rainy day, while elsewhere in the city, ambulance crew Johnny and Fraser get a call to a GP surgery where it is reported that a man in his thirties seems to be having a heart attack – a highly unusual emergency.
In Edinburgh, Colin and Dan check and treat an elderly lady with an unusual combination of symptoms. They need to work out what is going on and arrange for her to go to hospital.
In Greenock, another elderly lady has fallen at home and needs to be carefully moved and checked by Brian and his special operations colleagues. Back in Edinburgh, Moira and Blair get a call to a man with breathing difficulties who seems to be having a panic attack that is making his symptoms worse. They need to try and calm him down before it’s safe to take him to hospital.
Elsewhere in Edinburgh, ambulance crew Stephen and Gwion face a challenging situation with a patient who needs treatment but who, because he is in palliative care, refuses to go to hospital. In Fife, a young man has fractured his ankle while walking on rock by the coast and needs to be rescued. Ali and Emma from the special operations team go to help.
