When 30-year-old Hayley, played by Lucy Gaskell, is diagnosed with a brain tumour she insists that her husband Phil, played by Gareth Farr, looks to the future, suggesting that he goes on a succession of blind dates. Phil hates the idea, but reluctantly agrees. However, when he turns up at the restaurant for his first date, he loses his nerve and instead meets up with his best mate, Lloyd, played by Renton Skinner. Lloyd is puzzled by Phil's worries, but suggests that Phil simply lies about the dates to Hayley. As time passes, Hayley's condition worsens and she has to relocate to a care home. Without her, Phil falls apart, letting the house go to ruin and losing interest in practically everything. But then, after his wife has kicked him out, Lloyd turns up, puts some structure back into Phil's life and introduces him to his friend Jess, played by Martha Cope. Immediately, Jess and Phil get on like a house on fire, making Phil reassess the whole idea of dating. But when he goes to tell Hayley about Jess she's drifting in and out of lucidity, and is apparently now against the idea of Phil being with anyone else, leaving him with a difficult decision to make...

The boredom of the school holidays gives way to unexpected adventure for two lads on a run-down estate when 15-year-old Malik, played by Terry Haywood, and his friend Adam, played by James Burrows, start to suspect that Malik's older brother Jamal, played by Faraz Ayub, is a suicide bomber. Following the death of their father, Jamal turned to religion, becoming a strict Muslim, while Malik headed in the opposite direction, preferring to find solace smoking dope with his mate Adam. Spotting Jamal in a heated argument with an older man, Adam suggests Jamal may be getting involved with terrorism. Malik rubbishes the suggestion, but when he finds a list on the internet of the 'tell-tale signs' of a potential bomber, he starts to think that Jamal does indeed fit the profile. His suspicions seem to be confirmed when he discovers a video camera in Jamal's room: surely it must be for his suicide message. Malik and Adam start to follow Jamal and notice that he seems to be increasingly angry. But the two friends gradually discover that things aren't necessarily as they seem...

Luka Bartholemew, played by Iwan Rheon, is contemplating his life on the eve of his 30th birthday. From a young age, he has been the sole carer for his chronically ill mother. When he discovers that she has arranged the rarest of presents - a day off - he has a matter of hours to live out his youth. The only problem is he's stuck in Porthpunnet - Britain's premier seaside retirement community. Luka will not be beaten and does his best to enjoy his day, meeting the daring and enigmatic Dan, featuring David Leon. But things quickly turn sour, leaving Luka bloodied, bruised and at breaking point. He's rescued by Phil, played by Mark Benton, a middle-aged hairy biker, not exactly the knight in shining armour Luka dreamed of, but Phil takes him under his wing; offering sage advice and a cathartic ride on the back of his motorbike. Also featuring soul star Paloma Faith, who makes a cameo appearance from behind the till at the local supermarket.

Bunmi Mujekwu and Naana Agyei Ampadu star as Missy and Kim, two very different sisters. Missy is a regular clubber, while Kim is a studious high achiever, but when times get tough they unite in a plan to gamble their way to success. Disguised as a WAG and with Missy's help, Kim starts clubbing with football players to get inside tips on forthcoming games. It's only when she realises that she has lost sight of her original dream that she comes up with a better plan - to head to America.

Fate throws pickpocket Jason, played by Robert Sheehan, and Somalian immigrant Asad, played by Said Mohamed, together on a London night bus. As events unfold, an unlikely friendship develops between the two men who are both battling with inner demons.

Ben, played by Andrew Buchan, is captivated by his flighty friend and neighbour Chloe, played by Zoe Tapper, who toys endlessly with his affections, until a chance encounter with her doppelganger, Jennifer, changes the dynamic of their relationship forever.

Kept a prisoner in his room, the boy, played by Gerard McDonald, is all alone until he finds a mouse. But the mouse needs to eat, and so begins an odyssey in search of friendship, love and cheese.
