Yogscast: Civilization V

I can't believe this is the title of this video. Anyway - Welcome b(r)ack to another series of Civilization V! This time we're getting everyone in, with Lewis, Duncan, Rythian, Daltos, Kirsty, PotatoMcWhiskey and RTGame all taking a shot at building a civilization that stands the test of time!

While we spend time figuring out not only the perfect crime, but the solution to wealth and equality, everyone is expanding their territories a little, flexing their diplomatic muscles and figuring out where is good for who.

Some people take their side-switching seriously! Daltos is growing his empire quite a lot, while Declarations of Friendships is flying around. War is inevitable though. It's all a matter of when.

The Petra is coming, and it's looking bad for everyone else for missing out. Meanwhile, Potato is working on his comedy routine, and some jokes work better than others.

RT is swimming in crabs! Which sounds... unpleasant. Best trade them away quick. Luxury trades a plenty going on, everyone wants happiness. Or chocolate. Same thing.

Puns a-plenty. I guess that's what an atmosphere of jolly cooperation gets you. We all know the hammer will drop eventually.

Everyone wants the Wat, but only one person can have it. "Have what?" Exactly. "What you mean?" Yes. "Wait, what?" Yeah, exactly. Okay, that's enough of that routine.

Religions are being named, enhanced and spread, and the World Congress becomes the first place where some conflict is shown. "It's Embargoin' Time!" - (quote from famous movie Embargo Man)

It's the year 1000, and Daltos's army is looking scary. Very very scary. Is anyone going to try to put up a fight? Congress won't help us here.

The war between Potato and Daltos has everyone's attention, and it seems like most people are covertly or not-so-covertly supporting Potato with gold. Is that enough to hold back the American Juggernaut?

The Potato-Daltos war seems to be in a bit of a stalemate, with Minutemen and Elephants crashing into one another by the dozens. Perhaps both players can look elsewhere for success. Let's see where everyone stands as we approach the later mid-game.

Back again after a mid-game break, we're down a King. But don't worry, glorious computer William is here to step in! Meanwhile things seem to have calmed down for now, but everyone knows the giant is just sleeping.

There's just something funny about elephants. In this video we also take a 13 minute break to talk about other 4X games, Civ 5 and Civ 6 and what we're hoping for in Civ 7.

At least that's what he CLAIMS. He's criminally lucky at least, building Wonders on the same turn as other people finish them. The rich get richer! "Just be bad at the game" is Kirsty's advice.

As Lewis's fledgling tourism empire grows, the rest of the players have to decide how to deal with it. And ideological war creates strange alliances among former enemies.

A war, a war, an exciting war! Blood will spill, but is the real threat the bloodless culture war? I guess we'll see!

Lewis is fighting against the Giga-Alliance, and him and everyone else is fighting against the lag of a big war game of Civ. Rythian wants to help with the war but is too far away to really send any troops, so he sends some gold to help. They will use the money responsibly right? Right?

Unhappiness all over! In real life it would be because of all the war, but in Civ it's because of tourism. Not sure if we should read into that.

The push against Lewis is getting near-overwhelming, but Lewis has a history of holding off the impossible. Meanwhile, other players approach victory from other ways. Who's getting closest?

If Lewis is no longer winning a Tourism victory (and that's a big if), then who's actually winning? Everyone seems so quick to say that it isn't them, but someone's gotta be close!

And so it comes to this! A couple of people are close to winning as the game counts down its last couple of laggy turns - but who will take it all. Thanks for watching, and stay tuned for the next series!
