Containing 5,500 calories, this British Cold Weather 24hr MRE has more caloric content than any other individual ration currently in service. Doubling up on snacks, drinks, and desserts, it focuses on being low in protein and sodium, yet providing 1,500 more calories than the standard British ORP, accommodating for the extra calories burned in cold climates. And also to reduce risk of dehydration - including extra drinks for encouraged fluid intake along with the body requiring less water to assimilate the fat and carb calories opposed to protein, which required more water to process. The Meal Halal Individual is issued to US service members on strict religious diet, and is also used on joint operations with Muslim practicing soldiers from allied countries. This introduction is with one of the more exotic menus in the case of 12 - Saag Chole with Lamb. It's dessert is a decadent butterscotch pudding in a generous 4 ounce serving, via thermostabilized retort. The components are quite versatile and could be mixed up in a range of different ways. The Lithuanians are eating well with these rations. Like the stewed pork with pearl barley in this one - talk about a delicious and quite normal tasting meal. Perfect for camping trips in cooler weather - but be careful with those biscuits as they can be rough on the teeth. I had a fun time doing this review, and it is about time here doing a Lithuanian MRE as these are quite common in the ration world. And I've enjoyed them for a good while now, and these things have not changed very much at all in the last 6 years. Anyway, up next are some older rations, gettin' served up on a silver tray. These Republic of China (Taiwan) Field Rations are on point. The Type A, B, C, and the self heating "Field Heated Lunch Box" are reviewed in a 24 hour layout. That FRH could heat that meal up even in arctic conditions. Take a food journey and try out some new things, because that's what life is all about. Also, I made a mistake with the intro title and put it as PROC when it is ROC. My apologies for the confusion, as there is most certainly a big difference. PROC is mainland China and ROC is Taiwan. A direct upgrade to the Type 09 Individual Soldier's Self Heating Meal, the Type 17 combines both practical and palatable in their newest standard issued field ration. With the newest Type 18 (up next for PLA) being a direct upgrade to the Type 13, this Type 17 is again, the answer to the much needed changes from that older Type 09. With freeze dried and pickled vegetables, an extremely powerful FRH, compressed food bar, dried fruit, and a delicious curry chicken & rice, this really turned out to be a well made ration that breaches into the realms of a US MRE & South Korean ration in terms of food quality, effectiveness, and tough packaging. Latvian Rations have almost double the calorie content of US MRE's, yet they're virtually the same exact size and weight. The food itself is of good quality. Once heated up, the main courses almost taste homemade. With a pack of rye bread, delicious almonds & raisins, and even a dried rice cereal, it features some excellent sit-down and on-the-go food components that really add a nice balance to the ration overall. A unique freeze dried Thanksgiving feast and one to remember! The first homemade ration from my freeze dryer, this massive Thanksgiving MRE was a 90% success in terms of preparation/packaging. An introduction into something new and great with making rations - and next time it will also include some cooking scenes for even further dimension. So stay tuned for that. Until then, I'm compiling a recipe list for these home made components and will post them on this video description very shortly. Some company really needs to cash in on this idea - imagine some sortof bucket that feeds 6 for Thanksgiving. Could make for a nice & easy ready to cook Thanksgiving dinner for convenience, camping, or survival.
