tracy (played by evan rachel wood) and evie (played by nikki reed) are the main characters of the dark coming-of-age film that is 'thirteen'. the movie not only shows the harsh reality for many young people when trying to navigate the difficulties of teenage-dom, but it's also a perfect time capsule for early y2k fashion.

as someone who was a teen in the 2000s, i can't help but look back at the era with both fondness and abject horror. some of the trends (and a LOT of the culture) are positively cringe-worthy now, but that doesn't mean i'm any less nostalgic for it. this new series on our channel (yes, there will be more like this) will basically be a crash course to different eras; the music, the movies, the clothes, and the moments. i hope you enjoy~

as always, this series is meant to be a crash course into a specific era, so before the grunge purists come and attack this video (although we know it'll still happen anyway), we wanted to say that we put "grunge" in quotations for a REASON. we're well-aware that grunge is first and foremost a musical genre that came about in the 80s, but it'd be naive to say that the subculture around it didn't wind up influencing films and fashions of the time. this video is about both grunge and "GRUNGE". some of the movies and cultural moments that we chose to showcase don't necessarily revolve around the grunge movement, but they represent many of the things grunge stood for (anti-establishmentism, social isolation, anxiety, fears of mediocrity, substance dependence, mental illness, and young angst). EDIT: i wrote 1990 for the fall of the berlin wall, it’s 1989! my mistake ????

this wasn't a video i planned on making, but i got SO many requests to do a video on costume design decisions i dislike and this was one of the first films that came to mind (the other is mentioned in this video). i LOVE the animated beauty and the beast film so much that i had the dish set and the computer game and watched the sequel every christmas as a child. i was really excited for the live action film when it came out, and of course, because i love clothes, i couldn't help but feel disappointed with some of the costume design choices. i have absolutely NOTHING against jacqueline durran or emma watson, i just think this could have been better. obviously all the views in this video are my own, if you disagree that's okay!

somewhat inspired by my last video (the problem with belle's dress) i decided to make a video in DEFENSE of a costume design decision that many people hated. which ironically enough, also involved emma watson. this is one of those costume choices that continues to upset people in the harry potter fandom to this day, and is one that i've come to understand over the years. what're your thoughts on it?

i had multiple people ask my thoughts on ariel's dress from the little mermaid movie, so i decided make this! i come off a bit harsher than i intended cus i wrote the script when i was in a "mood" ???? i don't HATE the dress i promise, i just think it's the weakest of all the disney princess gowns. what do you think?

if i could only save 10 pieces of movie memorabilia from certain destruction, dorothy's ruby slippers would definitely be one of them. her ruby slippers from the 1939 wizard of oz film are as commonly associated with her character as judy garland is, which i think is saying a lot considering they're usually depicted as silver.

a video that pretty much no one wanted but that i decided to make anyway ???? a thing i meant to mention in the video, but forgot, is that by "underrated" i don't mean "unpopular", because obviously she's still getting cast in things fairly regularly. but she isn't receiving recognition, by both her industry and the general populace. if someone asked you "could kirsten dunst win an oscar" you might hesitate because you're probably most familiar with her work when she was younger, even though she's definitely capable. she just needs the role and the support that'll get her there.

my take on the age old question: should aurora's dress be blue or pink? i definitely have my preference (blue), but i can see why fans of the pink dress feel the way they do. at the end of the day i think it's just a matter of preference with no right or wrong answer.

rewatching this show to prepare for this video was excruciatingly painful, things have changed an awful lot in 2 decades. while MANY of the outfits in sex and the city are an eyesore, it'd be a lie if i said they weren't influential at the time. here's a breakdown of some of the fashion trends that sex and the city had a hand in popularizing in the 2000s.

back again with another movie review. in a year of terrible reboots and remakes the witches (2020) is a breath of fresh air. it isn't a perfect film but it's still loads of fun and most importantly, scary, at least for its target demographic. what did you think of the witches remake?

birds of prey has been one of my favorite films of 2020 and i knew i wanted to do a video all about its awesome costumes (designed by erin benach). compared to what harley quinn wears in 2016's suicide squad (costumes by kate hawley) we're seeing a whole new person with an entirely different fashion sense. which of harley's outfits is your favorite?

1996's the craft is one of my all-time favorite movies. the fashion, the music, the acting, the message. it all brings me so much joy, which is pretty funny considering how dark the subject matter is. when they announced the craft sequel i was understandably concerned about it, and while in some ways it exceeded my expectations, in other ways, it failed. here are my thoughts on the craft: legacy.

i've mentioned before how amazing contemporary costuming can be and legally blonde is one of those films that really excels at it. we fully understand these characters and the world they're living in. there's no denying that the outfits in legally blonde are VERY of their time, but i think that's part pf their charm. and come on, the message still holds up today.

that's right! i had the amazing opportunity to speak to costume designer mary jane fort about her work on mean girls and bring it on. learning about her process, especially the emphasis on character, was so fascinating.

it's been awhile, but i'm finally back with another movie review~ i'd been looking forward to freaky all year and was relieved that it finally moved to streaming (i'm not trying to get sick for a movie????). what's your favorite body swap film?

i, like pretty much every 20-something on twitter, was positively livid after seeing the new trailer for the winx club reboot, fate: the winx club saga. it captured none of the magic of the original winx club series and seemed like a copy-paste of every other gritty teen drama from the last 5 years. WHERE IS THE ORIGINALITY!? it's so sad to see the shows i grew up watching get destroyed by men who couldn't care less about staying faithful to the source material.
