The 7.5-cm Pak 40 was the most important German anti-tank gun in the Second World War. In terms of preventing the Second World War this might be true, yet we also need to look at the various consequences the Versailles Treaty had on Germany and how that affected how it had to conduct itself in the Second World War. As such we look at how the Versailles Treaty influence German manpower, especially reserves, in the Second World War and thus had likely a not so insignificant outcome on the war. What did the Germans think about the Churchill tank, specifically the Mark I, II and III? This video is based on a German report of the Churchill Mark I, II and III captured at the Dieppe Raid (1942) as well as some other German reports about the Dieppe Raid. Additionally, we look at errors in the report and provide context, like a comparison to other heavy tanks, e.g., the KV-1, the Germans faced. The 3,7-cm-Pak 36 is rather infamous for its inability to deal with heavy and well-armored medium Allied Tanks in France 1940 and the Soviet Union in 1941. Although, when used in France the troops in some cases were very happy with it. In this video we particularly look at the aspect that Fremde Heere Ost (the German military intelligence for the Eastern Front) discounted German Tank Kill claims by 50 % / divided them by two. This is not necessarily incorrect, yet the reason for this discount is often not mentioned or unknown. Additionally, one has to keep in mind when this statement was made and that the explanation given might not be correct either. Furthermore, various other problems with statistics, kill claims, keeping records etc. are also short discussed. In short, context matters and usually there are several aspects to consider.
