A team outing takes a sudden turn for the mountain rescuers: While magnet fishing on a mountain lake, Tobi pulls a wristwatch from the water – and with it, the body of a man. It quickly becomes clear: The deceased is Daniel Prädel, who was reported missing after failing to appear for his divorce hearing. To clarify the dubious circumstances of his death, Markus and Alex have to work together for the first time since their separation. When Daniel's identity is confirmed and the suspicion grows that someone knocked him unconscious and pushed him into the water, his estranged wife, Maren, immediately falls under suspicion. Although the separation was amicable and Maren is in a happy new relationship, as Alex discovers, Maren would have received nothing in the divorce settlement – now she is the sole heir.

But the rescue is only the beginning of another catastrophe. On their way back, the couple and Markus pass an abandoned cabin, and Sofia recognizes it from her dreams: it's where her father died 20 years ago under circumstances that were never explained.
