Heartening but heartbreaking to speak with some of those affected by the serious flooding in Australia. As ever, their sense of community and selflessness is humbling, but it is terrible that such devastation seems to be occurring more often. On the call were: Daniel Cleave and Curtis Arthur, owners of a small business in Shepparton, Victoria; Grace Langlands, a member of the NSW State Emergency Service; Maureen Carter, CEO of the Nindilingarri Health Service in the Kimberly Region of Western Australia; and Brad Flowers, owner of the Overland Corner Hotel, Upper Murray, South Australia. Collectively, these individuals represent small business owners, frontline responders and local community and Indigenous peoples leaders.

Thanks to the generosity of the Polish people, those fleeing the war in Ukraine have found shelter. Sadly, the humanitarian crisis continues today with many refugees seeking shelter at accommodation centres like the one we visited this week. This centre provides two free meals a day, Polish language lessons, psychological and employment support, and even a free shop giving its residents access to clothes as well as sanitary and hygiene products. It really is a sanctuary on the frontline of the humanitarian crisis.

The Princess of Wales speaks at the 'Exploring our Emotional Worlds' youth forum on World Mental Health Day. Exploring our Emotional Worlds, delivered in partnership with The Mix charity and featuring presenters from BBC Radio 1, 1Xtra and Asian Network, brought together 100 young delegates nominated by ten leading mental health and youth engagement charities to start a conversation about how they manage their emotions. The young people also discussed how they can be supported to build their resilience and protective factors such as healthy relationships, which make it easier to navigate bumps in the road as they go through life.

The British Sub-Aqua Club (BSAC) celebrates its 70th anniversary by inviting club members from around the country, as well as international guests, to join a special flotilla sailing along the River Thames from Erith Yacht club to Tower Lifeboat Station in central London BSAC is dedicated to promoting safe and responsible scuba diving in the UK and beyond. It offers comprehensive training programs, certification, and support for divers of all levels, from beginners to experienced enthusiasts. The Prince of Wales speaks with firefighters from across Canada to hear about their experiences of tackling the country's worst wildfire season on record. During the call, His Royal Highness heard about the scale of the effort to tackle the wildfires, including the number of Canadian firefighters involved and the provision of international support. Those on the call also spoke about the impact of the difficult season on the firefighter community, which suffered a number of fatalities, and the support available to them to maintain their wellbeing and recover from their unprecedented workload.

We've got our winners but The Earthshot Prize is about so much more than that! So where will we be in 2030? The Prince of Wales joined Christiana Figueres, Chair of The Earthshot Prize, and Brandon Ng, the Co-Founder and CEO of 2022 Earthshot Finalists Ampd Enertainer, to discuss scaling Earthshot solutions, measuring impact and what the future holds.

Back in 2022, The Prince and Princess visited Earthshot Prize winner Coral Vita in The Bahamas and took part in a very special experience snorkelling around the beautiful reefs, and planting out new coral. Coral Vita do incredible work to Revive Our Oceans by giving new life to dying coral reefs, farming corals on land before planting them into oceans. This method sees coral grow up to 50 times faster than traditional methods. Coral is vital for maintaining a healthy ocean ecosystem. As Earthshot Prize winners they received £1 million to scale their solution and help protect and restore our planet by 2030.

The Prince of Wales traveled to Singapore for the third annual Earthshot Prize Awards Ceremony, taking part in Earthshot Week and attended the United for Wildlife Global Summit 2023. The four day trip saw His Royal Highness seeing the sights of Singapore, meeting Singaporeans and learning about how local organisations are working to protect and restore our planet – from tackling the illegal wildlife trade and protecting the rainforest to incubating and scaling cutting edge innovations.

At the beautiful Newport Cathedral earlier this month, the local community hosted their own Together at Christmas Carol Service with The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood It was an evening that celebrated the diversity of the city and the people helping the next generation to flourish, building the foundations for a happier, healthier society.

Earlier this month, Chester Zoo hosted its own Community Carol Service with The Royal Foundation Centre for Early Childhood. It was one of 12 community carol services taking place across the UK (and the only one featuring Zoo animals!) thanking those who do so much to support young children and families in communities across the UK.
