After the dramatic events that took place in Duchniki, Piotr Wolnicki awaits trial in a cell. Agnieszka Polkowska has no doubt that she has caught a serial killer, a sociopath who almost took her daughter's life. The testimonies of Jola and her mother will certainly lead to a conviction. Or will they?
Wolnicki does not admit guilt. Court experts consider him sane, but the evidence gathered does not seem to be sufficient to deprive him of freedom for many years. Piotr's defense is determined to call his son as a witness. Will the boy decide to lie to protect his father from prison?
Unexpectedly, Piotr receives a letter from an acquaintance from years ago. Lila visits him in prison. She brings back memories of the time when they were both in the children's home. It seems that now she is the only person who is sympathetic to him.

After the verdict is announced, Polkowska does not give up. She follows Piotr because she is convinced that it is only a matter of time before he commits another crime. Agnieszka cannot come to terms with the court's verdict. An additional blow for her is the departure of Jola, who after her testimony at the trial faces a wave of hate. Tormented by a sense of failure and devastated by her daughter's decision, Polkowska will reach for a glass for the first time in several years.

Wrońska informs Mrówiec and Polkowska that the case of the young girl's death has already been solved. The murderer left a suicide note in which he admitted guilt and then committed suicide. Agnieszka is certain that Klaudia is another victim of Wolnicki and insists on questioning him again. Even Mrówiec is unable to convince her of her theory. It seems that she has no choice but to abandon the investigation and go to Jola in London.
Lila is reeling from recent events. She has fulfilled Piotr's request, but it is hard for her to come to terms with what she has had to do. Wolnicki assures her that he appreciates her sacrifice and offers her a vision of a future together.
