Haikyuu is a show that is easily skipped. It's a sports anime about volleyball - a niche genre about a sport that pales in popularity compared to other ballgames. But Haikyuu trascends those limits, offering a show with such wide appeal that anyone can find something to love in it. It's one of the best anime I've ever seen - and as someone with little interest in sports or sports anime, I almost never saw it - so today let me take fifteen minutes of your time. Ocean Waves feels like a very different type of movie from Studio Ghibli. In a library of films that look back to the magic of childhood, Ocean Waves dared to look forward, to the relative mundanity of adulthood. As a teenager I wrote it off as the 'one bad Ghibli movie', but now - nearly twenty years later - I've rediscovered it as a new favourite.
