Outdoor Nevada

John discovers the oasis of the Henderson Bird Viewing Preserve and meets a couple of birders. Then it’s off to the Spring Mountains for a hike and a lesson in trail etiquette, and finally, John picks up a paddle and learns the game of pickleball.

John visits the Vegas Roots Urban Garden and learns about community and what it takes to grow a garden with heart. Then we head Downtown for a late-night bike ride with a great group of community-minded people. John then meets up with Jason from the Nevada Department of Wildlife and a variety of snakes. Finally, we learn some interesting details about the bighorn sheep.

John meets up with Andrew from BLM to learn about the Sloan Canyon Conservation Area. From there John gets a taste of a family tradition dating back a hundred years. John also meets up with Jason, a herpetologist from the Nevada Department of Wildlife, and finally, we meet an enthusiast who loves involving and introducing others to outdoor activities.

We visit the Spring Mountains Recreation Area and learn about this beautiful sky island. While we’re here, we get a lesson in proper and responsible camping. Then we walk through the Mojave Desert with a botanist to learn about a familiar species of plant, the yucca.

John visits the historic Pioneer Saloon and meets the new guy in charge and learns how he’s taking care of the 107-year-old saloon and its storied past. While we’re there, John sits down with retired NASCAR driver Brendan Gaughan and gets a lesson in moonshine. From there we're off to Laughlin to float the river with a fishing guide/local wiseman for a day of fishing and good conversation.

John explores the Gold Butte National Monument. He visits other-worldly rock formations, a massive sinkhole and Native American rock art with significant spiritual significance. From there, John settles back with an astro-photographer to observe a meteor shower. And finally, John walks a section of fire-scarred land with a botanist seeing how the plant life is returning.

John meets up with Leici, a local climber and president of the Southern Nevada Climbers Coalition. They talk about the sport of climbing and how to best maintain the land for future generations to enjoy.

John takes a stroll through downtown Boulder City, taking in the public art. He also meets up with a local artist. From there, he heads over to the railroad museum to check out new exhibits and a sneak peek at a few coming soon. Then John helps out the Department of Wildlife with a plant replacement.

John visits the Spring Mountains to learn about the local wildlife with Jonathan from the U.S. Forest Service. We then get a lesson in angling from Abby with the Department of Wildlife. John then hits the Late Night Trail with an extraordinary group of mountain bikers. Finally, we catch up with Mandy from the Bureau of Land Management.

John explores the Heritage Trails in Laughlin. While visiting the area, John learns about the Bureau of Reclamation and the series of dams in the Southwest. Then we get an extensive tour of the world-famous Hoover Dam.
