In this video we make some ammonium formate from ammonium carbonate and formic acid. It was supposed to be used to convert vanillin to vanillin amine, but there was a problem with the synthesis and it doesn't seem to work. UPDATE: In this video, I am showing you guys what the "proper" procedure would be, but it is by no means the fastest. If you want the fastest way, follow chemplayers method. I just prefer to not evaporate solvents, but that takes extra time. I would use a gravity filtration though in both cases though. It's just as fast and doesn't have as many problems as a vacuum one. The o-nitrophenol is separated off by steam distillation and the p-nitrophenol that is left over is cleaned by recrystallization.
