If you want a Grammy nomination, your best shot is to either be a veteran (see: Bob Dylan), or be so popular at the moment that your music is inescapable (see: Cardi B). But those guidelines don’t seem to apply to Nothing More. In fact, nobody seems to know who they are. Despite that, the four-man hard rock outfit from San Antonio, TX have managed to snag nominations in all three Rock categories – putting them ahead of fellow 2017 nominees Foo Fighters, Metallica, and Chris Cornell.
Most of the music press was caught off guard by their nominations. VICE News Tonight visited the band in their hometown to find out why this was the first time most people were hearing about them.

In January, his community honored him for overcoming addiction and watched as his case was dismissed entirely. When Stewart faced felony charges related to his addiction to Percocet, he was able to benefit from his tribe's unique approach to addiction. Recognizing that issues with substance abuse in native communities often arise from intergenerational trauma, the Penobscot Nation attempts to reacquaint criminal drug offenders with tribal traditions and cultural practices to help them make a full recovery. VICE News followed Stewart on his last day in the Healing to Wellness Court.

When they infiltrated three morning news programs by passing themselves off as a hilariously un-athletic strongman duo, Brooklyn comedians Nick Prueher and Joe Pickett were not the first people to prank TV News. Left-leaning activists The Yes Men famously infiltrated BBC, and right-wing provocateur James O'Keefe unsuccessfully attempted to plant a false story in the Washington Post. But Prueher and Pickett, who run the Found Footage Festival, have no overt political agenda and are happy to simply interrupt news programming with the absurd or profane. Out of embarrassment or pragmatism, media companies generally avoid legal retaliation after getting pranked. Yet when Prueher and Pickett pranked Gray Television, the company sued, kicking off a battle over free speech, comedy, and how easy it can be get past TV bookers.

An advertiser can upload that data to Facebook, which will match them with its user base to find who they belong to. Then there are so-called “dark posts,” a feature Facebook is in the process of changing, which only show up in the news feeds of specific audiences and are completely hidden to everyone else.

Ask any humanitarian volunteer you’ve walked past on a sidewalk — it's an incredibly difficult job to get people to commit themselves to a cause or relief effort in another part of the world. The way we receive information about suffering is a key factor. A University of Bradford study shows consuming an overwhelming amount of violent imagery can desensitize people by shutting down the part of the brain that activates empathy in order to protect itself. As the number of victims increases, empathy can plateau or even go down, a phenomenon the Arithmetic of Compassion project calls psychic numbing. As psychologist Paul Slovic explains it, our brain is better able to process information and develop complex impressions about one person suffering than it can for larger numbers.
And although we’re capable of feeling empathy for anyone, behavioral research shows increased neural responses to the perceived pain of individuals of the same race.

Researchers at Stanford University are developing a model that can screen X-rays for pneumonia and other diseases, a task that’s usually done by radiologists. When tested against a panel of expert radiologists, the algorithm performed at the same level — and sometimes better than humans — in diagnosing several pathologies.
And they’re among many doctors experimenting with artificial intelligence to read medical images. VICE News spoke with radiologists working on this new technology about whether it could one day replace them.
