Chief Inspector Julia Thiel doesn't know whether a dead man is a murder victim, is an accidental death or has taken his own life. Neither does her mother Karin, but she interferes in the case anyway.

A supermarket manageress from Ahlbeck on the island of Usedom is found dead in the neighboring Polish resort of Swinemünde. Inspector Julia Thiel and her Polish colleague Marek investigate. The dead woman was planning to meet one of her employees to discuss a mysterious property swap. The case is a challenge for Julia Thiel, because her mother of all people is a "legal adviser" to the main suspect. To cap it all, her adolescent daughter is proving difficult, having found out she's having an affair with her Polish colleague.

Julia Thiel tries to find Jadwiga, a friend of her daughter, who has been kidnapped. Karin Lossow meets her husband's former mistress.

A homeless man is badly burned in a fire on a yacht parked in the marina of Usdom. Commissioner Julia Thiel discovers that, ten years earlier, the boat had been involved in a fatal accident. A couple had been killed and only their 6-year-old son had survived. The policewoman wonders if he hasn't returned to the island to avenge his parents...

On the same day, within a few hours of each other, two people were run over by two drivers near the port of Peenemünde. Among the victims was Commissioner Thiel's mother. In addition, the child she was babysitting has disappeared.

Stefan Thiel hasn't heard from his wife for days and is starting to worry. When he decides, accompanied by his mother-in-law, Karin Lossow, to go looking for her, he finds himself immersed in the red light district of Stettin. It seems that Julia was hired by the boss of a motorcycle club "MC White Eagles" of the Usedom branch following the disappearance of one of its members. Ellen Norgaard, a Danish woman born in Usedom, had just joined the police as a detective when a mutilated body was discovered near the island.

During the robbery of a gourmet restaurant, the situation goes wrong, leading to the deaths of owner Ingo Wiek and Jens Kampwirth, a petty criminal. Traces at the scene indicate that the young man had an accomplice. Ellen Norgaard begins the investigation that uncovers unexpected links between Kampwirth and Wiek. She also discovers that everything that happens on the island doesn't escape Karin Lossow's keen eye.

Holm Brendel, from the nearby Heringsdorf police, asks Karin Lossow to visit Martina Gentsch, his girlfriend from high school. She has been in pre-trial detention for two years for shooting her lover - in self-defence, she says. But the prosecution retained the murder. Martina claims that the lead investigator, Lucjan Gadocha, removed the evidence that proved her story. It seems, however, that Martina's release is within reach when her lawyer dies in a car accident that evening.

Among what the sea throws up on the shore, there are often curious stones resembling amber, but which catch fire when held with your bare hands. Raik's company specialises in the recovery of these war remnants, but the Danes have made a better offer. And then, it also happens that it is a body, which the sea brings back to the beach...

Sascha Hoerne is found dead. He was a promising young man who was loved by his colleagues and in-laws. Jörn Sievers, his future father-in-law, trusted him and gave him a position of high responsibility in his building renovation and restoration company. Suspicion falls on Michi, the brother of his future wife, with whom relations were strained.

After a debauched drug party by Karin Lossow's (Katrin Sass) great-nephew Ben (Emil Belton), 16-year-old Flo (Jascha Baum) is found dead in the sauna of a holiday bungalow. Ben's father Rainer (Till Firit) arrives, Karin's long-unseen nephew, who works for the Munich Criminal Investigation Department. He promptly interferes in the investigation, because his son is a suspect: Ben was deeply in love with Felice (Lea Freund), just like the dead Flo. And Felice was probably abused during the night, as Commissioner Ellen Norgaard (Rikke Lylloff) thinks she can see from her behavior. In addition, Ellen makes a private discovery that will change her life: she is pregnant.

Erika Brunner (Lore Stefanek), the mother of Dr. Dirk Brunner (Max Hopp), dies in a luxurious retirement home. The prosecutor learns that nursing service manager Kerstin Matthies (Ingrid Sattes) had apparently abused his mother. This hits Brunner all the harder because he was in a relationship with Mrs. Matthies until recently. A short time later, the nursing service manager disappears – a violent crime? Brunner comes under suspicion. The prosecutor, who has been stalked by journalists and bloggers, seeks support from his opponent Karin Lossow (Katrin Sass), of all people. She hides it – in the area of the bison enclosure where she works. Brunner sees himself as the victim of a conspiracy and suspects that the perpetrator is someone he has put behind bars. Together with the ex-prosecutor and Ellen Norgaard (role Öyööpff), Brunner investigates his old cases. In the process, the three of them come across a murder case in which he does not play a laudable role.

After her divorce from the local politician Victor Braydon (John Keogh), Simone Eggebrecht (Caroline Redl) finds stability in her work with the disabled and her friendship with the paralyzed Wiebke Siehl (Julia Hartmann). Simone's plan to build a hotel for the disabled in a prime location is torpedoed by anonymous acts of sabotage. She hires Patrick Horn (Max Schimmelpfennig) as a security guard. When the young man disappears, Simone blames her ex-husband and his party colleague Enno Littmann (Jörg Witte) and drags Commissioner Ellen Norgaard (Rikke Lylloff) and her colleague Rainer Witt (Till Firit) into their War of the Roses. Karin, who begins a romance with Inspector Gadocha (Merab Ninidze), wants to stay out of it and finally put her own interests first. But it is precisely her own struggle for happiness in life that allows Karin to find the true motive and the tragic perpetrator.

Ellen Norgaard's first day at work after maternity leave ends in disaster: her one-year-old son Jesper is kidnapped from the care of his childminder. Inspector Rainer Witt and ex-public prosecutor Karin Lossow do everything in their power to find the child. A detail of the investigation puts Karin on the right track: the kidnapper is Patrizia, Ellen's mother, who disappeared without a trace more than 30 years ago. Karin and Patrizia were close friends in their youth. Since Karin knows Patrizia well from back then, she is working intensively on the case. While Ellen becomes increasingly desperate, the investigators try to find out where Patrizia could be with the child. In the course of the investigation, it becomes clear that Ellen's mother has only recently been in a psychiatric ward...

It's burning on Usedom: Karin Lossow's thatched-roof house is on fire. At the last moment, she manages to escape from the house with Ellen Norgaard's help. Karin has suffered smoke inhalation and is immediately taken to the hospital. At the clinic, she befriends former nurse Saskia Bernard, who was hit by a car and seriously injured. Saskia was on her way to physiotherapy when the car hit her. The young woman recovers quickly, but she cannot remember the accident. The car and driver have disappeared without a trace. Who wanted to kill Saskia? And why?

Ulf, Eva and Renate, all in their seventies, are partying exuberantly during a camping trip in Poland. The next day, Ulf, confused and taken away, is found by hunters at the edge of the forest. He thinks he's killed someone, but can't remember anything. Helpless and desperate, he is taken to hospital and police commissioner Lucjan Gadocha is notified. During a border check, Holm Brendel and Dorit Martens stop Eva's camper, which catches fire and explodes. Holm and Dorit suspect that the three of them are smuggling gasoline to supplement their tight budget.

Prominent TV presenter Sandra Berger has died. The horticultural entrepreneur Britta Hausmann finds the TV lady beaten to death in her Usedom holiday home. Chief Inspector Ellen Norgaard is shocked when she meets the husband of the victim, the equally well-known TV presenter Jonas Gomez, at the scene of the crime. The two are connected by the well-kept secret of a passionate affair. Karin Lossow senses that Ellen is in a bad way. The inspector pours her heart out to her friend. No one in the police station suspects that Ellen had met with Jonas Gomez at the time of the crime. It would mean the certain end of her career in the police and the probable end of her lover's career, who has no alibi for the time of the crime and is also being blackmailed. The circle of suspects also includes the employees of the horticultural company, who were at the couple's holiday home before Berger's death, as well as the Greifswald art dealer Schwenkers.

School secretary Annett Ludwig jogs by the sea. Under a steep cliff, she discovers a dead teenager: Theo Jacobsen, a student at her school. The 17-year-old was considered an inconspicuous outsider. Karin Lossow knows Theo from business school, where she teaches a course on legal issues as part of a project week. Coincidentally, she had witnessed a bullying attack on Theo, who was at the top of her class, and offered to help the boy. Rainer Witt and his colleagues Holm Brendel and Dorit Martens examine Theo's laptop. It turns out that he ran a buoyant trade in test questions, which he sold to his classmates, making thousands of dollars in profit. To do this, the alleged model pupil used access to the board of directors' surfer – the password was only known to school secretary Ludwig. Theo was deeply in love with their daughter Paula. But Paula has a crush on Karol Wilcek, who can't do anything with her pubescent classmate.

Police Superintendent Holm Brendel follows in the footsteps of prominent Swedish crime writer Arvid Johanssons in Ystad. Ex-prosecutor Karin Lossow accompanies Holm on the private trip. On the ferry back to Usedom, she meets Dana Driest, a native of Poland. She has a conspicuous hematoma on her cheek. Was she a victim of domestic violence? The next day, Karin sees Dana's husband Jochen driving off the ferry at the wheel of his SUV – without his wife. In the meantime, Dr. Brunner is looking forward to new tasks in Estonia. His successor on Usedom will be public prosecutor Katharina Stozek, the partner of Chief Inspector Rainer Witt.

A woman is chased through the forest and falls into a pitfall. The scene turns out to be survival training offered by the loner Ivo Klose. At the same time, Karin Lossow discovers dead puppies while walking her dog Lucky.

While Karin Lossow inspects the construction site of her future domicile on Usedom, eight refugees from Afghanistan and Syria are waiting at the Belarusian-Polish border for their further transport by a group of smugglers. Among them are Ahmad Bashmani and his young daughter Amira. The refugees are taken to a van that sets off westwards. At the wheel was the completely overtired Grzegorz Kuchar. Although little Amira suffers from severe abdominal pain, the smuggler does not want to stop the car to get help. And so the girl is dead when the van arrives on Usedom the next morning.

When Inspector Rainer Witt learns of his aunt Karin Lossow's car accident on the Polish side of Usedom, he manages to navigate the emergency services to her just in time. The investigation into the case of the dead refugee girl Amira Bashmani is finally moving forward thanks to Karin's testimonies, but after the murder of the smuggler Grzegorz Kuchar, who is responsible for the girl's death, the police are faced with more questions than they have answers. Because not only Kuchar is dead, but also his two murderers, the smuggler Sasha Leskov and his Uzbek accomplice Shakir Adullayev.
