Mary Jean 'Lily' Tomlin began her career in stand-up comedy and sketch comedy before transitioning into her career as an actress on stage and screen. In a career spanning over fifty years she was first seen in a 1965 episode of The Merv Griffith Show and went on to have immense success with several characters, notably Edith Ann and Ernestine on Rowan & Marin's Laugh-In, Linnea Reese in Nashville, Violet Newstead in 9 to 5, Marilyn Tobin on Damages, Deborah Fiderer on The West Wing and most recently as Frankie Bergstein on Grace and Frankie and as Lou on 80 for Brady (2023)
