In a time of rationing, unemployment and post-war poverty, Biglers and Ellen's lavish celebration of Bangsbo manor appears as a provocative symbol of 'Gullasch-capitalism'. The party meets harsh criticism, and Bigler and Ellen are forced to look beyond their luxurious bubble. At the same time, there is rebellion Denmark with demonstrations and violent uprisings, with many fighting for a new welfare state.
