Tiananmen Square has been the stage for a hundred years of upheaval. The portrait of Sun Yat-sen, the father of the revolution, was raised, and at the end of the war, the Japanese surrender ceremony was held with 200,000 people watching. During the Cultural Revolution, it was filled with the frenzy of runaway youth. And in the Tiananmen Square incident, it was stained with the blood of young people shouting for democracy.
