Despite a Cartesian spirit, doctors cannot escape a degree of subjectivity. Even though they have built up a shell for themselves, they are regularly touched by their patients. While they develop natural empathy for some, others, such as those who do not help themselves, sometimes elicit more negative feelings. Bound by the Hippocratic Oath, how do they manage to treat all their patients with objectivity and the same rigor?
