The history of Communism in Germany i only really associated with the second half of the 20th century when the Eastern Half of the country including the capital, Berlin, became a state of the Eastern Block with a Communist-style government in power. However in 1920, following the failed Communist coup undertaken by the likes of Rosa Luxembourg and Karl Liebknecht of the Spartacus League, the right-wing Kapp Putsch facilitated the circumstances for another uprising. While the rest of Germany went on strike in accordance with the wishes of Friedrich Ebert, the president, people in the Ruhr took up arms and defeated the right-wing Freikorps in their country, leading to the creation of a Communist Republic.
