In this video I'm going to analyse the position of Elizabeth the First of England by 1571, 13 years after her reign began and discuss whether or not she had consolidated her power or whether she was well established. She had to contend with Catholic plots, both homegrown and from abroad, with foreign interventions from Scotland and Mary Queen of Scots, her own cousin, as well as the Spanish and French, the religious extremists of the Jesuits and the Marian Exiles followed by the Puritans on both the Catholic and Protestant side of the ecclesiastical spectrum and finally the issues presented to her following her repeated decisions not to marry and therefore her inability to produce an heir.
