Alan tries to get public sympathy by saying Rita is after all his money, but as he is looking for somewhere to live, he tells Carole he doesn't want her being dragged into everything. Phyllis assures Arnold that she is not using him and finally he agrees to take her out. Emily is worried that Derek is having second thoughts about marrying Mavis, so she enlists Percy to keep an eye on him.
