The great tenor Arnaldo Vezzi, a world-famous artist and friend of Il Duce, is found dead in his dressing room at the San Carlo Theatre before the performance of ''I Pagliacci''. A rainy autumn has arrived, blanketting Naples with clouds and fog. During the week of the Dead, the body of a child is found. His name is Matteo, or Tettè to those who knew him. One of the many street urchins who live by their wits in the alleys of the city.
