Studio Ghibli had previously worked with Namco Bandai, licensing songs to their music game "Taiko no Tatsujin". For the 15th anniversary of the game this cooperation went to a new level with Studio Ghibli creating this short animation for the commemorative festivities. From the booklet: "The mouse character is based on Toshio Suzuki's drawing by Dusa Ichi, and Katsuya Kondo drew it with a full-length brush, and he made it into a lively animation. It co-stars with Han-chan and Katsu-chan, who are the characters of "Taiko no Tatsujin". It is extremely rare for a character from another company to appear in a work produced by Ghibli. The mouse character was later named "Mauchi Yuichi", and merchandise waw created and he appeared on the game screen." Published: June 25, 2015

He originally liked Choju-Giga, and he went to Kyoto. He went to Kosanji Temple, which owns Choju-Giga. In the meantime, he was approached by Marubeni Shindenki for a commercial, and since Marubeni is a traditional and old company, he thought that it would be fitting with a bird and beast caricature. Producer Suzuki consulted with Isao Takahata on the production. Director Takahata had his deep knowledge of Choju-Giga painting, and his book on picture scrolls, 'The 12th Century.'"
