Time for School

It’s Silas and his classmates' first full day at school! There are lots of things to explore, new friends to make and teachers to meet. After meeting the teachers, the children explore the classroom and outdoor area. At lunchtime, Ottilie and Bryn ‘spot’ an invisible mouse in the dining hall. Lusungu finds that opening yogurt lids can be a bit tricky. Luckily, Mrs Farrell is on hand to help. The day continues as Silas and Maily create family portraits. Silas has fun drawing his mum's, but finds it harder to draw his pet cats - so he draws rabbits instead!

Mrs Farrell and the children create a class charter – a list of rules to follow to all get along with one another at school. The class put the rules into practice by sharing together and being kind to each other. Ottilie and Felicity find out how to look after the giant African land snails. Leon takes charge of keeping the classroom tidy and ends up being awarded a certificate for all his hard work.

It’s a new day, and Mrs Farrell is checking in with all the children to see how they are. Lucas tells her he is looking for more friends to play with, and there are lots of volunteers! Isla, Otto and Jud bake some delicious tiger ginger biscuits, using coloured icing for roar-some decorations. At playtime, Jud asks if she can play with Lucas, and they have a fun-filled game of chase. The day ends with carpet-time, and Lucas is happy with his new-found friends.

Lucas and his classmates are learning to write the letter ‘t’ for tiger. After watching how it’s done by Mrs Collins, Lucas helps his friend Otto. The children discover the classroom is in a mess and a spot tiger paw print on the floor. Could it be a toy tiger causing havoc in the school? Lucas has an idea to track down the toy tiger - leaving out pictures and some food. But will it work?

The class has a visit from Karen, the dental nurse, who shows them how to keep their teeth clean. She asks Jud to be a pretend dentist and give Oliver’s teeth a check-over, but how many teeth does he have? Jud, Oliver and Jessica are then given the chance to practise their brushing skills with Karen. She gives them some top tips to make sure they always have gleaming white smiles. Solomon is in the dental surgery role play area. First, it’s his turn to be a dentist and Mrs Hussain is the patient, then they swap roles. After lunch, Mrs Farrell and the children try out the skills they’ve learnt by giving their teeth a brush.

The class is making fruit kebabs, so they go on a trip to a local supermarket to buy the ingredients. Will Leon be able to find his favourite fruit – a big melon?

Oliver and his friends have a fun PE lesson with the school sports coach, Mr Beresford. They are pretending to be in a farmyard and cross different obstacles to collect the feed and take it to the chickens. The children take a break and refuel with a healthy fruit snack before Mrs Farrell shows them how to feel calm with a bit of tapping.

Solomon and his friends are practising letters with Miss Gerrard. Outside, the children are going to the climbing wall area, and Mrs Collins has a challenge for them. Later, Solomon and Lusungu get arty and make their very own tie-dye t-shirts to wear, with help from Mrs Farrell.

The class has a visit from a vet, Evan, who gives the children advice on looking after pets. Evan asks Leon and Ottilie to help him check over the class guinea pigs, Teddy and Eddie, and they get a clean bill of health. Finally, Mrs Bailey, Leon and Ottilie clean out the guinea pig hutch, but will all the wood shavings make it into the hutch or end up on Ottilie?

The class arrives wearing brightly coloured clothes for a fun-filled activity day. There’s a colourful science experiment and a colour safari adventure around the school.

It’s autumn time. Jud, Jessica and their class visit a local park to collect leaves for an art project. Back at school, they use the leaves to create a huge leaf print picture - and things end up getting messy! The school playground is covered in leaves and the school caretaker, Mr Clever, needs help clearing them up. Luckily, he has a team of super leaf sweepers, who come to the rescue.

It’s Miss Gerrard’s birthday, and the children plan a surprise party for her. Felicity and Coen are the chefs. They are in charge of baking and decorating a delicious birthday cake, with help from Mrs Bailey. Theo and Jasper are making a beautiful birthday crown for Miss Gerrard to wear and have asked Mrs Hussain to help them. With everything ready, it’s time for the surprise party!

It’s the start of a new day, and Wren has made a card for her best friend Emmy. Outside, Wren, Emmy and Ayat discover a ladybird, which soon flies away. They go in search of their new fluttery friend, but will they be able to find it? Later, it’s Solomon’s turn to sit at the VIP table as he has been doing so well at school, and he chooses Lusungu as his guest. Finally, Sophie has a fun activity for Wren, Solomon and Lusungu - they are going on a pretend train trip in search of dinosaurs.

As the children arrive, there is a rainbow over the school. Mrs Farrell points it out to Bryn before they head inside to create their own rainbow on the carpet. The rainbow has disappeared and the rain has stopped, so some of the children go outside for a game of hide-and-seek in the forest area. They soon find a hammock and take it in turns to try it out whilst the others sing a nursery rhyme. Back inside, it’s time for some more nursery rhymes with music teacher Miss Usher. After a Hickory Dickory Dock warm-up, the children form a marching band for the Grand Old Duke of York.

The school is having a very special lantern parade, so each child gets to make their very own lantern with their face on. Oliver and Felicity are making theirs with help from Mrs Collins. They use a milk bottle for the body, pipe cleaners for arms and coloured paper for clothes, then they add a photo of their face. Once the lanterns have been made, the children hang them on a wire in the playground ready for the parade. Later when it is dark, their families and friends arrive to see a magical display of light!

Mrs Farrell and Miss Gerrard are having a Kindness Day at school, a time when the class shows how they can be extra kind to each other. As the children start their day, they are thinking of new ideas to be super-kind. Jessica and Orla draw lovely pictures for the teachers, which makes Mrs Farrell and Miss Gerrard feel happy. At lunchtime, Solomon is finding the lid on his yogurt a bit tricky, so Sam helps him to open it! Outside, the children are tidying up the playground. Felicity sees that there is a queue for the climbing frame, so decides to let Bryn have a turn – how kind. Whilst climbing, Isla notices Bryn is struggling, so she helps him out with some top tips. At the end of the day, Mrs Farrell and Miss Gerrard give out certificates to those children who have been extra kind throughout the day.

It’s a cold day at school, and the children arrive wrapped up warm. At carpet time, Mrs Farrell asks them how animals keep warm in winter, and they talk about how they hibernate. Otto and his friends go to the forest area to look for signs of winter. Jud finds a toy bear, and the children decide to build a cosy home for it to hibernate in. Later, Jud, Leo and Leon cut out their very own paper snowflakes with help from Mrs Hussain - how will they turn out? It’s the end of the first term for the children in reception. Mrs Collins, Mrs Farrell and Miss Gerrard ask the class what they have learnt since they started school, before finishing the day with a group hug.

It’s Diwali, and the class has visitors who have come to tell them about the meaning behind the festival of light. The children have a go at making rangoli with Mrs Hussain and try some tasty Indian sweets. Jessica, Theo and Alba are creating some diya lamps out of clay with the help of Miss Gerrard and some hungry crocodiles! The lamps are part of a special display, and the class celebrate all they have learnt.

It’s a special day at school as the children take part in a Remembrance assembly. Leon and Jud make a handprint poppy wreath with help from Year 6 pupil Hania.
