For hundreds of years, one of the first things apprentice bookbinders made were tools, jigs and templates. Some of these tools they would use for the rest of their lives. A successful bookbinder who owned two well known binderies in Brisbane, Doug Keats, was nice enough to give me his corner templates that he made when he was an apprentice and that he used for over 60 years.
