The Hill Farm

In this first episode the farm is devastated by a fierce blizzard and many of the animals perish. It has been the worst possible start to the year. Can Gareth and his family recover?

Gareth Wyn Jones and his sons battle the elements as they take their flock up the steep mountain slopes. Then as summer arrives thousands of sheep are rounded up and sheared; it's a mammoth task and one of the biggest events in the farming calendar.

It's summer in Snowdonia and Sior, the family's eldest son, feels the pressure as he enters the farm's annual sheepdog trials and collects his exam results. Gareth and his father Roland take the farm's top rams to market, but competition is fierce - will their rams make the grade?

Gareth finds out if all the hard work over the past year has been worth it; the lambs are ready to be sold, but for what price? As winter approaches, the wild mountain ponies are gathered up. Only now will it be clear how many survived the devastating snow in the cold spring.
