The history of Melaka, a city in Malaysia, dates back to the 15th century Melaka Sultanate, when it became a thriving maritime trade hub. During this period, Islam spread rapidly due to the influence of Arab trading partners. In the 16th century, the Portuguese sought control of Melaka to dominate its strategic trade routes. The city later came under Dutch rule in the 17th century, followed by British control in the 19th century. Despite these shifts in colonial rulers, Melaka continued to prosper as a significant port town.
