Jonas, who has cancer, is to have a lower leg amputated. He becomes the new room-mate of Leo, who has been in hospital for many months and also has cancer. Leo lost his leg some time ago and the two boys share the same fate. Leo and Jonas quickly become friends. They decide that Jonas absolutely must have a farewell party for his leg. But a real party also needs a girl - and the only girl Leo can think of is Emma, who is being treated for her eating disorder on another ward. In addition to Jonas, another new patient is admitted to the hospital: Alex, who collapsed in the school playground after a heart attack. He is put in a room with little Hugo, who has been in a coma for two years. But Alex doesn't want to accept the fact that he is suddenly trapped in a hospital and has a coma patient as his bed neighbour.

Leo develops a plan: he has learnt from Benito that a real gang consists of six people. There would be the leader and the second leader, who would be the leader if the first leader wasn't there, as well as the smart one and the pretty one, the good spirit and the girl. It's clear that Leo is the leader! But will anyone else be found in the hospital to put together such a gang? He quickly finds his first ally in Jonas. But what about Alex, who doesn't want to have anything to do with anyone? Can he even be used for a gang? And what role could he then play? Emma, the girl, is not so easy to convince either. And then there's the somewhat strange Toni, who is admitted to hospital with several broken bones after an accident and has a very special gift. But in addition to this mission, Leo also has to come to terms with the new results of his investigation...

The red ribbon club is finally complete: Leo is the leader, Jonas is the second leader, Toni is the smart one, Alex is the handsome one, Hugo is the good spirit and Emma is the girl! And a difficult first challenge awaits the group: Leo vehemently refuses to undergo further chemotherapy. In the hope of convincing Leo that he must not give up and must continue to fight his illness, the friends decide to go on a secret excursion through the hospital on a stormy night with a very special purpose. How will Leo react? And what if they are caught on their unauthorised night-time foray through the hospital?

But this promise is not so easy to keep: Emma reaches her limits when she wants to stand by Leo's side. How will Leo react to the fact that she has let him down in this situation? The other club members are also facing major difficulties. Hugo's mother learns that her son, a coma patient, is at risk of being transferred to another ward, away from his new-found friends. Alex, whose diagnosis is still unclear, is allowed home for one night. But contrary to expectations, this supposed freedom is very hard on him. And Toni gets a new room-mate, Oskar. A boy who appears to have been the victim of domestic violence. Toni resolves to help Oskar. But Toni himself is confronted by the youth welfare office, which questions whether his grandad is still the right carer for him because of his accident. The Red Ribbon Club forges a plan to help Toni!

The sun is shining and the club is given permission to spend the day on the roof of the hospital, where there is a basketball court. Unfortunately, only Jonas and Emma have to stay in their wards. How will they spend the day without the others? Will it bring them closer together? But Leo, Toni and Alex are unfortunately not the only ones who want to enjoy their free time on the roof: A group of older boys, led by Ruben, challenge them to a basketball game. The winners are allowed to stay on the roof, the losers have to leave. Leo tries to persuade Benito to coach them so that they have any chance of winning the game. But Benito has been given a terrible diagnosis that throws him completely off course.
