Following an invitation from the Federal President of Germany H.E. President Frank-Walter Steinmeier, President Michael D. Higgins undertook a State Visit to the Federal Republic of Germany. The State Visit, which aimed to highlight and further develop the close links between the two countries, took place from 3-5 July 2019. The two nations recently celebrated 90 years of diplomatic relations. Other Voices was honoured to curate an evening of music for this significant State Visit, which celebrated the longstanding cultural and musical ties between Ireland and Germany. Last night beloved Irish hip-hop duo Mango X Mathman played a rousing, energetic set in an empty Whelan’s for Other Voices’ new live stream concert series ‘Courage’. Viewers enjoyed brand new remixes developed during lockdown as well as songs from their iconic, independently released debut record Casual Work. The Dublin natives raised spirits around the world with their uptempo grime infused tracks and playful banter. The live stream trended number 2 in Ireland and was viewed in India, Germany, Finland and the USA, putting Mango X Mathman on a global stage.

Singer- songwriter Lisa Hannigan joined by Loah and Kevin Murphy of Slow Moving Clouds gives an uplifting and moving performance, playing a selection of songs from her three critically acclaimed albums, recorded in The National Gallery of Ireland.

Sean nós singer Iarla Ó Lionáird of the Gloaming and guitarist Steve Cooney perform contemporary versions of traditional Irish songs, recorded in the National Gallery of Ireland.

The latest instalment of the show sees up and coming Limerick based rapper and spoken word artist Denise Chaila, supported by fellow rapper and collaborator God Knows, as well as Sean Murray, AKA DJ Replay, give a mesmerising and powerful performance in the beautiful location of The National Gallery of Ireland.

Fiddle player Colm Mac Con Iomaire founding member of both Kíla and the Frames, plays an array of heart-wrenching tunes from his solo records, joined by pianist Catherine Fitzgerald and singer Síobhra Quinlan. Recorded in the National Gallery of Ireland.

Seven artists, two villages, one live stream: a musical conversation between the West Coast of Ireland and the heart of Europe. The musicians joining us from Dingle will be concertina player Cormac Begley, singer songwriter Lisa Hannigan and pianist Peter Broderick. The musicians joining us from Haldern will be the instrumental collective s t a r g a z e, experimental rock band Black Country New Road, alternative folk three piece All The Luck In The World and classical jazz poet Loney Dear. The live stream event will take place on Friday, August 7th, 8PM Irish Time / 9PM German Time and will be coming from St James Church, Dingle & Haldern Chapel in Haldern, Germany, with thanks to the support of the Department of Foreign Affairs & Trade, The Irish Embassy in Berlin, the German Embassy Dublin and Allianz Ireland.

Presented by Annie Macmanus, this one-off special celebrates the twentieth anniversary of Ireland’s Other Voices Festival. Each winter since 2001, Other Voices has gathered music’s brightest voices together to perform to an audience of just 80 people in the tiny St James’ Church, located along the Dingle peninsula on the most westerly tip of Ireland. Everyone from Amy Winehouse to Young Fathers, and St. Vincent to The National, have made the musical pilgrimage to west Kerry to play intimate sets on the church’s iconic stage. This special anniversary film takes a look at the history and foundations of the acclaimed festival with never-before-seen interviews and stunning performances from Sam Fender, Sigrid, John Grant, Villagers, Dermot Kennedy and Kay Young. Annie will also open the Other Voices vault to showcase remarkable archive performances from Fontaines D.C., Little Simz and Arlo Parks.
