In the Brazilian Amazon, children go on one of the most dangerous school paths in the world every day. The dense jungle is considered one of the most species-rich regions in the world and every day the group experiences new adventures in the flood forests. On foot and in boats they set off, because lakes and rivers are the only connecting roads ... Sisters Letizia (14) and Alice (10) live in the middle of the rainforest on the edge of a small community. Every day they march together with Issak (10) and Aline (10) first on a narrow path through the jungle. At the end of their journey, a canoe is waiting for them. Of the four children, only one can swim, but there is no other way to school. The four have to paddle almost five kilometres through flooded forests. At any time there can be torrential showers and storms as well as metre-high waves...

It is the land of snow-capped mountain giants and high-lying steppes: Kyrgyzstan. Its extraordinary geography also presents the children of the mountain villages with special challenges on their way to school: They ride on donkeys or run for kilometres through the freezing cold of the Kyrgyz winter and overcome difficulties such as the darkness of the early morning, wild animals or frozen rivers, just to get to school.
