(Filmed pre-COVID-19) Cycling to IKEA is (trivially) easy in Amsterdam, and cycling infrastructure in the suburbs is actually better - and safer - than near the city centre. But while that may be common in the Netherlands, it's very uncommon elsewhere, and it has knock-on effects that increase car traffic and limit the options to people in the city. I definitely prefer the Dutch approach here. I am not a "cyclist", but I do ride a bicycle almost every day ... along with hundreds of other people who are also not "cyclists". One thing I really appreciate about the Netherlands is that there is no stigma or group dynamics to riding a bicycle. There's no "bicycle culture" in the Netherlands, just like there's no "shoe culture" for people who walk where you live. It's just another option that you can use if it's more convenient (and it often is, due to properly designed road infrastructure).
