Following the death of his father, André decides to leave a stable job in a communications firm to become a humorist. His wife, Amelie, had other plans for their couple: to conceive their first child. With his friend Christian, an actor who left Montreal to return to Moncton, he made his first steps on stage in a 5 to 7. They survive their first "show" thanks to the help of their friend Luc, a local star. It is during this evening that the three guys meet Lamont, a colorful businessman, who offers them to become their agent.

Since he returned to Moncton, Christian has taken up residence at André's house and that does not suit Amélie; she's trying to find a way to get rid of her new roommate. For his part, André learns that the legacy his father left him will not allow him to survive financially while he tries to break into humor. Their new agent, Lamont, organizes an evening of amateurs in his bar to give an opportunity to the trio to develop.

Lamont has finally won a first contract for the Newbies: he announces that they will play the first part of the duo Dominic and Martin for the end of season show on a campsite. Except that it falls a little bad for Andre who had promised Amelie a weekend of lovers. He brings him with him to the campsite trying to hide from him that he has to give a show during their stay. Martin also hides from Dominic the reason they are doing a show at a campsite in the middle of October.

After a show at the farmer's, Luc's former theater teacher, Christian and André, Madame Micheline, comes to congratulate them behind the scenes. The reunion is short-lived since Ms. Micheline succumbs to a heart attack in front of them. His daughter asks them to attend the funeral. Luc and André make the road together while Christian leaves alone. On the way, Christian puts on a hitchhiker who convinces him to drive him to a few places for questionable appointments. Arrived at the funeral, André, Luc and Lamont find that Christian misses the call.

The Newbies win an audition for a series of shows in a home for the elderly ... provided Luc is present. But Luke tells the other two that he has other priorities, including his daughter and his show. André and Christian try to persuade the organizer of the show to let them audition, even if Luc is not there. For her part, Ann-Julie convinces Amélie that André is hiding something from him because he is too kind.

The Newbies win the prize of the revelation during a festival of humor. Behind the scenes, André, Christian, Luc and Lamont get to know Philippe Laprise, the festival's sponsor. The tension goes up a notch for Christian when he realizes that Philippe is accompanied by a representative of the agency Michel Lévesque who turns out to be Karine (his ex). He claims that he knows her only professionally. As Philippe wants to fish smelt, Lamont volunteers to organize a game of fishing. The next day, on the frozen bay, André remarks that Karine seems interested by Christian. He encourages her to use her seductive skills with Karine to help them break into Quebec. But Christian has a secret that prevents him from going further with his ex.

The Newbies will do an improvisational show with Laurent Paquin in the candy of a fundraiser in Edmundston. On the morning of departure, Ann-Julie broke up with Christian after finding compromising text messages from her ex, Karine. While leaving, she is surprised by Amélie who thus discovers that her sister and Christian are frequented. When she tells André, he does not understand that Christian did not tell him. As he finishes his suitcase, André discovers several packages of uninjured birth control pills. Amélie no longer takes the pill and did not tell her anything ... Everyone is hiding things from her! He leaves the pills in plain sight so that Amélie knows he knows.

When they won the Discovery Prize, the Newbies also won a training: Valérie Blais gave them an intensive workshop on stage presence. During the workshop, André realizes that Luc and Christian are really more accomplices since they are roommates. André feels a little excluded from their dynamics.

Amélie reminds André that she gave him a year to become a full-time comedian and that he only has one month left. André calls his partners to find new avenues for the Newbies. After much thought, the three guys decide to make humor in English. Kim managed to arrange an interview with a journalist from the provincial daily newspaper.

The Newbies are in Montreal to participate in the Zoofest. When André learns that Amélie and Ann-Julie can not come to see them, Christian convinces André to give their tickets to his father-in-law.
