Fleadh Cheoil

The first in a new six-part series from Fleadh Cheoil na hÉireann which is back in Cavan town for a second consecutive year. Presented by John Creedon and Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin, the programme features the well known flute player Seamus Tansey, brothers Míchael and McDara Ó Raghallaigh along with Geraldine O'Callaghan, Danny O'Mahony, the Friel sisters from Glasgow and the group Full Set.

Included in this week's programme are the popular Irish American group Cherish the Ladies, the Maguire Family along with John McCartin. We also meet the tutors and students at the Fleadh Cheoil Summer School, Scoil Eigse.

This week's programme includes a concertina duet from Jack Talty and Cormac Begley, the under 12 Concertina competition as well as a late night session from the Costello family from Roscrea, Co. Tipperary.

John Creedon and Aoibhinn Ní Shúilleabháin mix with the thousands of musicians who celebrate the annual Fleadh Cheoil in Cavan. Included in the programme are brothers Donal and Mick McCabe from Co. Monaghan, Dylan Foley from New York on fiddle, Caitlín Nic Gabhann from Meath on concertina and Kavan Donohue from Cavan on guitar. This week's programme will also include coverage from the All Ireland Senior Ceili Band competition.

Included in this week's programme are former All Ireland flute winner Laurence Nugent accompanied by Eamonn McElhome, singer Cathal Lynch from Co. Tyrone and a late night session from Michael O'Connell and Damien Mullane on pipes and box and Dessie Kelleher and Seamus McGrath on banjo and guitar.

The final programme in the series features music from Fleadh regulars Attracta Brady, Michael Curran and Kavan Donohue. Also the group JPTrio entertain us on the streets with a lively set of tunes as do the All Ireland Ceilí band champions The Shannonvale Ceilí Band from Co. Kerry.
